I scan everything, then keep the copies in a "pending" folder. When I get a check, I take out the copies and do a quick check of the rest. If something's been sitting for more than 6 weeks, I know to start checking into it.

That's the way I used to rebate too. It worked very nice so you could have backup in case of dispute.

I used to rebate but I will do it only if it is something I truly need, or in most cases, I could use and don't want to pay big bucks for later. Up here, Shopko does the rebate or rebate + 10% (which is a store voucher). I always did the rebate. I stocked up on TP for over a year based on that (went cheap; Scott's since it was just me). My paper towels, and Dove soap (10 bars) were the same way, rebated.

Once I got hair care product through Walgreens that cost me the tax and the stamp. I still felt like a winner.

    Re: Do you do rebates?

I did a search for rebates and found this thread. I just filled my first one out, from the inside of a box of Smart Start cereal. I can get $2.99 back if it works.

A question for those who do rebates often- how do I find them? I've never really seen them advertised, and I only knew about this one because it was on the box, and I had a coupon for the cereal. I'd only really do rebates on products I use, but I'm not sure how to find them.

I mostly just do the things at Rite-Aid online. Some months I get rebates and some months I don't.

I do the in store rebates at Harris Teeter. If you buy x dollars of a certain brand, you get $ back on your next purchase. These take place different times of the year. I do it if it's something I use.....especially if it's Kraft brands.

It should, I did that back in the fall and got my $$.

Walgreens and Rite Aid are the two biggies on rebates.   A few other possibilities.  Keep an eye on the Sunday inserts, sometimes you find them there. (There's one for Bayer products in today''s inserts 1/4) Sometimes there are tearpads on the shelf next to the items, though some stores put them in a single place.

Hop over to Hot Coupon World and check out the "Gimme My Money Back" forum ... there's a good listing there. Also at Fat Wallet's "Free Stuff" and "Grocery Deals" forums.  Most of the bargain blogs mention them too ... usually with links if they come with printable forms.

If at all possible, try to match the rebate up with a coupon ... you might make a bit of money ..  if nothing else, you cover the postage.

Dear All, Something you might find interesting is that Walgreens is now allowing customers to seek rebates online.  Yours in Him, Deb (The website & directions are includedin the monthly Rebates/Coupons booklets.)

    Re: Do you do rebates?

I've had a lot of success with rebates.  I fill them out as soon as I get home, photocopy everything, and mail it the next day.

The only time I ever had a problem was when Office Depot advertised flat-screen monitors for $100 off.  It took me six months and several calls and letters to the president of the company, but I got my $100 check in the mail.  I had to keep sending photocopies of the original ad, rebate and proof - I was lucky I had them!  They wanted the "original" ad, but I always sent a copy, because I am sure the original would have mysteriously disappeared.

Now I am more leary of rebates, but still do them to get the cash back.  Lesson learned: always photocopy everything and be persistent.
