    Dollar store make-up

In trying to cut my budget everyplace possible, I'm looking into make-up.

I see both Family Dollar and Dollar General carry CoverGirl; FD is cheaper than Wal-Mart, but higher than DG, whose CoverGirl foundation is $3.50. They both carry a house brand, L.A. Color, for $1.50 for the bottle.  Has anyone tried it?  How about their powder or eye make-up?

I didn't price Dollar Tree yet - any runaway bargains in their make-up department?  TIA, Liz

I like Rimmel from Wal-Mart. Sometimes Walgreens has it BOGO. Usually a coupon or two in the Sunday paper makes it cheaper than Cover Girl.

My Dollar Tree had a whole bunch of Maybelline a few months back. I bought blush and bronzer for $1 each. WOW!

Oooh, good deal on the Maybelline!  I haven't checked into Dollar Tree yet, like I said, so I'll definitely put them on my list.

I've used Avon for years, and tho I like it, I really would like to find a cheaper, local replacement.  I haven't heard of Rimmel - I'm going to Walgreen's tomorrow and will have a look, thanks!  I assume they have blush, powder and the rest in that brand?  Liz

Wal-mart here carries the whole line, but my walgreens does not. I don't remember off the top of my head exactly what they do have though. Sorry.

If you're a Target person, look there too. It's made in England and widely distributed here. My powder is $4, eyeshadow $2.50 - $3.50. Coupons are generally $1 off one item.

While I'm endorsing their product, I like the Stay Matte powder. I have fair skin, and the fair product isn't pasty white like other brands. It gives me some color without going overboard.

I'll have a look at the powder, too; I've got the same skin issues.  Liz

I have used L.A. Color before, but I bought it years back when the Target in my area carried it. It worked fine, and didn't give me any skin problems. If you do not have a sensitive skin problem that you know of go ahead and try it. If it turns out you cannot tolerate it you have not invested much. But on the other hand if you use it and it does not bother you, you have saved a good amount of money.

E.L.F is a great site for makeup.  It has been featured in fashion magazines. Everything is $1  http://www.eyeslipsface.com/

Thanks for the recommendation, Juardo.  Hard to go wrong for a buck-fifty, isn't it?  I don't go to Target, none too close by me and none too cheap, at least around here.  But if they sold/sell that brand name, it can't be too bad...Liz

Do you have a Loopy's Dollar Store in your town/city. Its makeup is only a dollar plus tax. The brand is Jordache it has all you need except eyelash makeup. It does have eye liner though. I don't know of any dollar store that has eye make-up except eye liner. I am sure You could check The Dollar Tree a store that is a dollar storewide in ND. I hope I helped?

Hi, Tanya.  No, I've never heard of Loopy's, lol, which is a nickname we call our youngest.  Wait 'til she hear's there's a store named after her. Big Smile

I've still not been by our Dollar Tree, but I'll get there soon, maybe today.  I really want to compare their prices.  I'm mostly in the market for foundation, powder (in a compact) and mascara.  I think I've got a lifetime supply of eye shadows and lipsticks.  When Avon and Mary Kay dealers around here go out of business, they put their leftover make-up out at yard sales and I get lots of lipsticks and eye make-up that way.

I had a little bit of a revelation yesterday - a friend gave me a bottle of liquid make-up that neither she nor her daughter could use as the color wasn't right.  It occurred to me that we could 'change' the color by mixing it - so she put half in her old bottle and I brought the other half home and put in mine.  Lol, that way, the darker color was lightened and we both have extended our supply of foundation 'til we find exactly what we're looking for.  I thought that 1.50 stuff at Family Dollar could be blended the same way, til it was just right...  Or maybe I'm just easily impressed, lol!  Liz
