I sampled some 2% milk mixed with powdered milk and found it did not diminish the taste of the 2%. My youngest will drink just powdered but my husband dislikes the taste. My older children once drank powdered but now turn up their noses. I think I have found a way to stretch the more expensive milk.

Also, the small plastic coffee creamer containers make great milk containers that can be frozen to keep the milk from going bad. I can freeze fluid milk to defrost and then mix with the powdered or I can pre-blend it and freeze.

I haven't done this yet, but intend to this evening. I'm going to use some extra chunky yarn left from another project to make myself heavy wool "cabin socks" so I can turn down the thermostat another notch this winter. I wear knitted booties around the house a lot in the winter, but this wool will be warmer than those. If I can keep my feet warm, I'm warm!

I find that keeping my feet warm goes a long way with being warm and I am on a mission to save more money lately so I too intend to do things to keep the heat turned down.

Keeping your feet warm does make a big difference. I have hardwood floors, so I'm very aware of that, both summer and winter. I have other plans for keeping warm, but that's today's plan, anyway.

It's not hardwood in here but it's drafty and badly insulated so the floors are cold.

We were running late today, talked the kids into free/reduced lunches- 40 cents for one lunch, two for free, will save a few dollars that we would have spent on lunches from home-

I fried flour tortilla pieces last night and we put cinammon and sugar on them for an evening snack.  Today I will be making more.  My husband decided he likes them so much he wants them in his lunch instead of potato chips. I decided a package of 99 cent tortillas will make a lot of chips.  I may even experiment with some other flavors.

We are also going shopping for material, which I know doesn't sound like saving money, but I save a lot by making my husbands shirts.  He wears western only and you can't buy a nice anymore for under $35.  Even having to buy the decorative snaps and not finding a sale on material I can make him one for around $15.

If you really want to get frugal about it, Sue, ask for tortilla recipes in the food section. You can make them for less than half the 99 cents. I use a very simple recipe when I feel really domestic or frugal (but I buy them otherwise!)  I've thought about making a big batch and keeping them in the freezer... maybe one of these days. Smile

I've been putting wet sponges in each of my 3 produce drawers in the fridge, & re-wetting them when they dry out.  This is simply great for produce that I don't want to freeze -- it increases the life of that produce wonderfully !
