I have heard that putting Camphor oil on a cotton ball and tucking it lightly in the ear helps ease the pain as well.  For one thing the cotton ball blocks the wind, and the camphor apparently has some pain killing properties. I have never tried it but I cannot see where it would hurt.

 Off-topic, but I am saving tons of wasted baby cereal, instead of pouring from the box, I put the cereal in a plastic container, with an 1/8 c measure, and that is all my mighty mouse can eat!  I was throwing away half the cereal as it was hard to pour less than 1/4 cup.

I keep approopriately-sized measuring cups in just about all of my canisters of things that I use often, eg, 1/3 c in with the oatmeal (for one serving).  It's a great idea, Tracy!

Baby cereal is hard to pour, Tracy. I too found I could cut the waste by storing it in a container.

To each her own, Deb, but olive oil has properties that baby (mineral) oil doesn't have. Olive oil is very close to natural skin oils, it's vegetable rather than petroleum based and it's safe around and in your mouth, nose and ears. It takes about a half teaspoon to moisturize your face and not a lot more than that for a whole bath, so a small bottle of olive oil will last a very long time. I consider that frugal as well as healthy.

Pat, have you had any problems with this clogging pores or causing breakouts?  I am almost out of my gift bottle of expensive Olay "miracle" cream and need a good cheap substitute--can use petroleum jelly sparingly but would like a new choice.  

Also, I have several splotchy, dry, flaky areas that have cropped up once again--my facial skin is my indicator of the change of seasons--wouldn't need a calendar to tell my cold weather is on it's way.  Would the olive oil help with this? 

I can't use any scented oil/creams on my face when it becomes dry. Advice?

 My legs get dry in the winter.

I find that I only need a few drops of oil in my bath as a skin softener instead of the amount Pat said. I guess it varies for different skin types too and how dry your skin is at the time. I have never tried it on my face so I can't comment on that.

No, it won't clog pores or cause breakouts that I'm aware of. I'm not sure how it would handle flaky areas, but f you have any on hand, it won't hurt anything to try and see.

A liter of oilve oil will set you back at least $6.50 here, while you can get 20 oz of baby oil for less than $1 generic.

The thread was about using stuff you can buy with food stamps for personal care/cleaning. If I only had 10 dollars in my pocket and 50 in food stamps, I would rather buy the olive oil personally.

Dear AndiTan, First of all, welcome to the Forum!  We are here to help you learn those new skills that you are interested in.  We are happy to hear your problems, & will then try to solve them.

As you'll see in the course of reading more threads, the title of a thread doesn't mean at allll at all at alll, that every post following it will be on the topic of the headllline.  Indeed, we routinely "highjack" threads by speaking of items taht we are remidned of by a preceding post.  SO, for example, you rightfully imply that you can't buy health-&-beauty aides or commercial cleaning products or paper products using SNAP/Food Stamps EBT.  But that doesn't forbid us from talking about all of those things on a thread that started in another direction.  You'll catch on just as soon as you start posting regulalry.

When my daughter was a newborn,  i was having trouble getting rid of diaper rash.  my grandma was visiting one day and she told me to use corn starch.  i tried it and it was amazing .  i imagine cornstarch is a lot cheaper than some of these baby products for rash. after all , grandma didnt have all that.
