    • 24 oz. pork roast

The package looks decent to me this time so I have plans to order.

We are not going to use the breaded frying chicken.  Not sure about the chicken chunks--we were given some cans of the govt. food program canned meats--these are large cans of shredded meat.  We are not big meat eaters and it is just kinda unappetizing and gloppy in the can.  Made a veg. chicken soup using about 1/3 of a can but we don' t like it.  I wonder if the angel food chicken will be kinda gloppy?  Other than those 2 items it sounds great.

Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

Yes, I too am planning on two packages! This is the best selection I've seen in a while.

My dad seems to think "chicken chunks" could be cooked, ready-to-eat chicken cubes, like what they use to make chicken salad. If that's the case, woohoo! I can use ready-to-eat chicken!

Rolo, I use the breaded chicken when I'm having a party, or when I make meals for other families. My DH is diabetic and we have to be careful with breaded products. Last time I had a bag full of whole wings, so I baked them, cut them up and delivered BBQ wings to a family whose mom was hospitalized. They loved them and the price was right!

My DMI gets the canned chicken and beef from USDA. We use it to make soup. I open it and divide it and freeze in small portions. It does look bad but the flavor in soups is great. Babs

I just picked up my Sept. package Saturday and we are very pleased.  I had talked my in-laws(who are retired) into buying one also and they were skeptical before they saw what all was in the package.  I can't wait until the October one comes.  This will help alot in my monthly budget.

Instead of a dessert item, we had 2 boxes of Stouffer's Pannini sandwiches which I love for lunch.

Today I made a big pot of vegetable soup with the beef ribs that were in the Sept package - there's not much meat on them, but they were just right in the soup.  I kinda missed the dessert item - dd ate the pannini and liked it okay.  Did you get the smoked turkey and bacon ones?

Just a note to all, last month's package contained Progresso fire-roasted tomatoes in the large-sized can.  I whirred them in the food processor with some fresh basil and it made great pizza sauce on my homemade pizza last week...Liz

P.S.  I wanted to add that we were given a loaf of bread along with our package Saturday!  They had a table full, everything from Wonder sandwich (what I took) to name-brand whole grain bread.  Still fairly fresh, too.  Good deal!

    Re: October Angel Food

I think I have figured how to make the best use of Angel Food. there is too much breaded foods for my husband but the packages would make decent meals for the rest of us. So I am planning Angel Food, some fruit and dairy along with a few beans and soups for when my husband is out and grilled meats with veggies for when he is in. This should give me some balance between healthy meals for everyone and affordability.

    Re: October Angel Food

That's what I'm learning to do, Brandy.  And I simply give away what we won't use at all or if it's too much to use in a reasonable amount of time.  I sometimes have to do that on the sly as dh swears by food storage, but his tastes in food are so limited and I can only eat so much dark meat, even though I like it... So we always plan on one package now, regardless what it looks like in advance.

Our AF location is overrun with participants!  I'm glad not only to profit from it, but glad to see it for the church's sake - it's a big job for the congregants, from the looks of it.  So even when the package looks so-so, I've commited to buying at least one.   Even this last one that didn't contain many 'favorites', came in very handy after dh had missed 3 days of work (unpaid) due to a flare-up of an old muscle injury.  It was comforting to get the food, and to have some choices of what to cook, serve and eat when our short payday would only have permitted the very basics for the week otherwise.  Liz

If those are the same kind of ribeyes that I got last month then they are great but do need tenderizing.  They tasted really good.  Linda
