My son made my heart sing tonight

Our oldest son Tyler had to come home from college for a physical today. When I picked him up he talked non-stop all the way home. One thing he said was that he has never been as happy as he is now being in college. He is really struggling his first semester at RPI. It is much harder than he expected(one of those mom and dad dont know what they are talking about). Yet despite that he said today that no matter how hard Physics is he loves it and knows it is what he wants to do. He is clearly thriving and I have tears in my eyes just typing this. Yes part of me hurts worried that there was something at home he did not like but he said no not at all. I think he is just the type of person that thrives in a social stimulating environment. He is working so hard and not taking anything for granted. He knows he is one lucky kid to be there. I am just so happy to see the change in him. At the end of the summer he went into a situational depression from a break up with a very long term girlfriend(6 years) plus the stress of graduating. He is a different person now and totally in his element. His first day of college he told me he walked down the hall and started walking into peoples dorms to introduce himself. That is so who he is. I just wanted to share, because it was such an awesome day for me to see how happy he is. It does a Mom's heart good!

When I asked God "why don't you help all the suffering people?" He said "thats what I put you here for".

    4given,

Step back and give yourself some credit!  YOU did good and I am happy for your and glad you can enjoy this moment.  Its not easy getting kids raised with their priorities straight.  Sounds like you did!

How heartwarming!  It's so precious when a child says something that warms your heart.  Is he at Rensallier(sp?)Politech Institue? RPI????  (That is an excellent school and difficult to get into.)  In any event, enjoy the moment....it's another happy wrinkle in the brain.

bnfrugal, yes he is at Rensselaer and got in on a partial scholarship he won in his junior year of high school. I LOVE the happy wrinkle in the brain! Thanks everyone.
