    price book for iphone?

I copied and pasted this post from the "Can You Help" forum so I know the last part of it doesn't deal with a stretching your dollar question but I didn't feel like typing the whole post over again LOL. I posted the question the other day in that forum but I thought I would try here to see if someone may see it who might have some insight on a price book app. Tomorrow I will be working at a Kroger that is near an Aldi's and a Wal Mart so I want to start working on my price book when I'm grocery shopping after work.

Thanks for any input! Big Smile

Does anyone have any experience with iPhone apps for frugal use? I know that may sound like it doesn't make any sense. An iPhone doesn't sound like a frugal choice for a phone but really, I LOVE my iPhone! I have had it for a couple of weeks and I don't know how I ever lived without it.

I love having everything in the palm of my hand. I have been looking at price book apps but I wondered if anyone has already tried any of them and have any recomendations? I would love to use a price book and I have tried a few times to start one but I get frustrated when the prices keep changing and I thought it would be so much easier to update plus like I said, you can't beat having it fit in the palm of your hand LOL.

I also downloaded a budget app and a check register app. I do not have my info transfered from my paper planner to those apps yet. I think I will need a good part of a day to work on those to get them started and I haven't had a chance to do that yet. I think those also will make life so much simpler when I have them set up. Since I don't have those set up yet I would welcome any input on those as well.

One last app I'm looking for right now is a daily planner. I don't think I can let go of my paper planner just yet but I have been looking at planner apps and so far I don't see any that would hold all the info my paper one does. Has anyone found a planner app that they like?

    TIA! Karen

    Re: price book for iphone?

I have an itouch and have the pricebook app.  It's the only app I paid for and it's been a FABULOUS investment.  The $2 is easily saved after you use it once or twice.  I've done a paper pricebook and was going to start another one after I moved to Indiana.  Then I heard about the app and I had a little money left in my itunes acct from a giftcard I didn't finish using up.  It's very easy to use, breaks down the price according to your input; if it comes in pounds, but you want the ounce price you just hit a couple of buttons and now it's in ounce price.  You indicate if the item being bought is on sale or not; the pricebook app will tell you how much a coupon should be worth to get your price to match the lowest in your list.  If you have flour from Aldi listed at $1.45 for a 5lb bag and Kroger has a sale on flour for $2 for a 5lb bad, the app will tell you that you need a coupon for at least 55cents to match the Aldi price.

The biggest downside is that if you have a coupon that brings the sticker price lower there's no seperate function to include the coupon, but you can choose if you want to change the price to reflect the sticker price in the store or the price you paid after all discounts, etc.

Example of how it's worked for me: I saw some pecans in the clearance bin at Kroger one day.  I was super excited b/c I use a lot of pecans at Christmas and any deal I can get is helpful.  I put the info in my pricebook app and it turned out that buying them from the produce section was cheaper by about 5 cents an ounce.  Doesn't seem like a lot, but considering I'll buy 5 of the 12 ounce bags from the produce sections that's a saving of about $3.  Add that up over several items over the course of a couple of months and you can generate some serious savings by just knowing what the prices are.

The whole point of turkey is to get to the pie.

Thank you Sunshinetreva! I just downloaded it. I hope I got the same one you are talking about. From the description of how it works it sounds like the same one.

When I do a search for price book on the app store quite a few things come up but the first one on the list that pops up sounds like yours. It is called PriceBook by RedBog software.

Now my only problem is that I want to look at it now and I need to be getting ready to go to work. I need to force myself to put the pretty, shiny new thing down and go get ready for work.  Stick out tongue
