What did you accomplish in 2009?

Looking back over the year, what did you accomplish? Did you fulfill your New Year's resolution? Meet any goals you'd set?

Re: What did you accomplish in 2009?

I kind of got bogged down this year and didn't cover half my list, but I did increase savings by quite a bit. Next year I think my goals will be less grandiose. I've managed to do most of them in years past, but I'm getting older and just don't have the get up and go that I used to have.

Besides increasing savings, I bought a new mattress and managed to find a way to keep the squirrels out of the bird feeder (new bird feeder). Hmm.. no wonder I'm feeling bored. Wink

My get up and go ... Got Up and Went! 2009 wasn't as productive than in terms of gardening and canning. This year we lost a lot to blight. However in terms of house repairs and reorganizing things we got quite a bit done. DH kept a list and by this fall he was astounded at how much work he had been putting off for 10 years. I went on a "stash frenzy" in the summer and fall of 2008 and we are still using up stuff without having to buy more. It was a great experiment to see what we do use and what was a waste of time and money. We've cut our utility use and streamlined our chores. I'm glad you brought this up.

nope didn't do much.    my shoulder cancelled out a bunch of things. physio and vet bills/car repairs cancelled extra savings.  bigger then normal car and vet bills I should say.

and a lot of things are just really the same old stuff,  I do declutter and reorganize but then with the kids, it is more of an ongoing task because it would be a disaster if I didn't.

Did get a couple of small home repairs/updates but not as much as I wanted.

But we did have some fun times as a family.   No family deaths this year and fil is cancer free so in our world that is a big plus! esp. after the last 4 yrs of dealing with things like that.

I haven't accomplished much in the way of goals, but it's certainly been a year of big changes.  DB and I finally got married. And now we've moved from New England back home (for DH) to Kentucky.  I'm hoping to set new goals and try to keep on track of them for next year.

We started out 2009 without consumer debt, thousands in the bank, and one vehicle.

We now have heaps of debt, zilch to speak of in the bank, and a second vehicle.

    Hmmmmmm?

Well our 401K bounced back somewhat. We have or are in the process of reducing our monthly expenses, the ones that aren't actively productive. Hopefully side work continues to pick up. That is positive!

I need some new resolutions to go into 2010 with.

     other things:

garden didnt produce as well but I made use of everything I had and put aside a bit for winter. I streamlined our financial records so even dh could peruse them if something happened to me. I've been doing some home maintence, carpeting and painting, sprucing things up that haven't been touched in 6 years. I've re-thought my charitable giving and designated different places for it to go, meager as it gets at times. I feel i have more control over all things financial, even if it isn't being spent and saved like I know it should. I know where it's going....its just plugging the leak. Still trying to get employment. Dh has been steady PTL although no raises...ever...in the future with this company.

I have discovered that less (stuff) is more (peace).

Re: What did you accomplish in 2009?

Well, we finally moved from VA to IN which was a dream for my DH.  And I'm making more food from scratch than ever before.  We saved up a lot of money so we could afford movers and so I could worry about not working for a bit and that has been nice though I'm ready to get back to working!

We are not debt free, but we pay over the minimum on the house each month and when I start working I'm going to add a bit to the monthly minimum car payment, so hopefully both will be paid off sooner than planned.

Our big things for 2010 are to save money and rebuild the savings account; pay cash for any home repairs/renovations; and prepare for getting a dog in 2011.  We told our DD that we were waiting until she was 7; in 2011 she turns 7 so sometime that year we will get a dog and that will mean making sure there's a fence in the backyard and money saved for vet expenses and so forth.

The whole point of turkey is to get to the pie.
