    Odd Birthday Gift

My friend received a rather odd gift for her 61st birthday from her SO. It was a drill with an auger attachment for gardening. They have lived together for 5 years and the situation clearly benefits him more than her. What kind of message is he sending to her? I'm just trying to see how others would feel about this.

I think it depends on her more than anything. Does she love to garden? Has she asked for garden tools? Is she a hands on type of person? I don't know about an auger, but I'd love to have some good garden tools for my birthday (or any day!)

Ha Ha !  This one made me laugh.  I think all it means is that HE wanted a garden auger.  My Dad always bought my Mom strange gifts.  He figured that if it was something that he wanted, then she must want one, too!  Men...............but they were madly in love and happy for 50 years!

I get the impression that this is the case, that it was something he wanted but called it her gift. I don't think she was too happy.

I wouldn't have been too happy and he would have known I wasn't happy. Rule at my house for my birthday, Christmas, anniversary, or Mother's Day is if it has a cord that needs to be plugged in, it is NOT a birthday, Christmas, anniversary or Mother's day gift.  Now the rule doesn't apply to DH since he LOVES anything with a cord on it as long as a tool is attached to the other end. LOL.

It all depends upon the person.  I gave DH a lawn mower for our 10th anniversary and that was the most excited that he has ever been over a gift.

Dh gives me dumbells and exercise equipment for my b'day's and I love it.
