Re: November Food Shopping and Cooking

Tuesday I went to food lion and spent $58. I got: milk, chicken, potatoes, oodles of noodles, pasta sides, candy corn for 44 cents lance crackers. The noodles and pasta sides are for the elderly angel we are adopting for christmas. I feel led to adopt an elderly couple and only if we have extra then adopt a child. I have seen applications for angel trees that only want food! That is terrible and it has really put a burden on my heart. I raided my pantry and if I spend $5-10 a week, maybe we can feed someone for a few weeks so they can have that money for their bills or prescriptions.

Wednesday I went ot harris teeter for triple coupons (i used 3). For $25 I got: $12 in ground beef (it was $1.59 per #), box of rice with Q for 24 cents, applesauce singles (2/1.28 with Q) dukes mayo bogo, 3 bags flour 99 cents each (2 for the angels), apples for $1.25, and pickles with Q for $1.50.

I have more coupons I want to use this week, and my list of things to stock up on, such as the mayo and ground beef after I make room in the freezer.

Martha, my co-op job for my degree is at our local pantry/crisis center. I have seen these people face to face and hear the struggles they have. I am looking forward to the holidays because the pantry will get alot of food because of loving people like yourself. But by the time we give out the allowance of food for family size, it can go quickly (it will probably be gone by end of January). I get worried when the shelves run low, but the Lord has always provided someway, somehow.

We have a food bank close by our house. it is run out of a church.  they actually have clothes etc too. We drop off toys etc too because the moms are allowed to pick things up for kids.  all second hand normally.  They have them wait inside now with the resources there for them. My friend does childcare there on food bank days. its one of her jobs.

Actually here the problem is summertime when the food banks are low.  Then the ads go out for donations because as they say everyone remembers the food bank at holiday time.

Got 2 gallons milk at Aldi's $1.49/eacb, brocoli crowns at Mennonite store $1.50/lb, foujr bags of Newman's Own pretzels 4/$1.00 at Boxes and cans. 2 boxes of Dreamfields Pasta, $1.00/ea with coupon. Some fresh vegetables for around $5.00. 2 qt. joghurt at Aldi's for $1.59 each.

This will last me about 2 weeks, since I have my 2 freezers full of garden produce and my stash of grains and canned beans and peanut butter and dry milk.

Whoops, forgot my daily indulgence. Got 2 containers of Edy's Sugar-free Ice Cream for 2 for $5.00.

Re: November Food Shopping and Cooking

I spent $70 today, spending 1/2 at each store.  My average is right no target b/c last week I spent $5 over and this week I'm $5 under.  Woohoo!  At least I'm making goal now!

At Aldi I bought our weekly staples and 2 boxes each of frosted shredded wheat cereal and puffed wheat.  Lately it's all I want to eat at breakfast; I'm blaming the cold we've had this week.  Turkey kielbasa was marked down to 99 cents (from $2.50) so I bought 4 since we love it but haven't seen it at that price in a LONG time.

At Kroger I bought whole wheat sandwich bread, eggs, DH's milk, some loss leaders, a few pears, block cheese and a few other random items.

No major deals this week and I forgot the EVOO and toilet paper; good thing I add things to the list long before I need them.  It buys me time when I forget them.  And, yes, they were on the list today.  My eyes just seemed to skim over them.

I bought fancy-schmancy bread b/c I knew I wouldn't have it in me to make it in time for dinner tonight.  Kinda bummed b/c I can make bread (2 loaves) for about $1 - $1.25, but this one loaf cost $3.50.  I will say it was much nicer than the $2.50 bread; DH is okay with it but he much prefers homemade.  I have promised to make some later this week after we finish the storebought loaf.

The whole point of turkey is to get to the pie.
