    November Food Shopping and Cooking

I'm starting this early because I got the sign-up sheet for frozen entrees from the local gourmet shop.

Re: November Food Shopping and Cooking

I'm going to order the following frozen foods from the local gourmet shop:

Beef Stew ---Hearty for fall weather, served over egg noodles. Since I don't know how I like their stew, I'm only getting 1 order.

Salisbury Steak --A  classic, with onion gravy     I'll get 6 packages.

Herb Almond Baked Chicken----Ready for the oven--crispy baked chicken.  I may get 6 packages of this.

Maple Glazed Carrots----Tender carrots with Maple syrup and butter. I'm getting 1 package.

I may get the Mashed Potato Casserole.

You have a choice of getting the food so that it feeds 4-6 people or 2-3 people. I get the 2-3 serving size. I am trying to have different things in the pantry and freezer so that I am okay when we have bad weather.

I tried the different prepared foods at Harris Teeter's deli and I didn't care for most of them. That leaves my choices for prepared foods Harris Teeter's freezer department, the local gourmet shop, the rotisserie chicken at Food Lion, and frozen stuff at Trader Joe's. Those food choices are less expensive than going out to eat at a restaurant.

I ordered more food thab normal because of the discount and because they aren't going to offer anymore frozen entrees until January 2010. They will be selling Thanksgiving foods that must be ordered by November 20 for pick up by 4 PM on Wednesday, November 25th.

I've placed my Angel Food Order for November. Even though the money came out of the bank in October, I'm counting it as November food budget.

Total spent for November $88 -- Angel Food Thanksgiving box, November Signature box and produce box.

The only things I should have to buy in November is toilet tissue, milk, bread and soft drinks. Probably will pick up some frozen pizza and hot pockets for DS.

I have to use up stuff in the freezer to make room for the hamper stuff coming in early dec.    of course I always say I am going to eat out of my pantry /freezer and find more sales to full it up!

but I really do need to make room for at least one full shelve. I have an upright freezer.

I forgot to say that the local gourmet shop gives a discount if you order 10 or more frozen things for each month. There are 2 different discounts. I qualified for the 10 items or more discount for my November order.

I've already gotten a turkey, stuffing and gravy for Thanksgiving. I'll wait until closer to Thanksgiving to get a 5 pound bag of potatoes. I've also been stocking up on spices for Thanksgiving and Christmas treats.

I'm going to set aside $600 cash for groceries for November. I dought that I'll spend all that, but I'm hoping to get some good deals on baking supplies, and other holiday staples, that will carry over, and hopefully cut back on my December grocery bill. I still have like $60 left for this month, so hopefully, I'll be able to get what I need tomorrow for that or less.

I spent a bit over $80 today, which was more than I wanted to spend, but I feel the money was well spent.

    Aldi -- $38.57

Several weekly staples like milk, potatoes, flour, salmon, bananas and almonds.  I also grabbed some tootsie pops (marked down to $2.49 for 150 pieces) b/c I'm worried about us running out of candy since I don't know how many trick-or-treaters to expect.  I also bought some mini hershey bars for DH & I since we don't get to trick-or-treat and we have not purchased any chocolate in over 2 months.  They are 40 bars in the pack and it was marked down to $2.99.

I got lots of baking supplies -- chocolate chips, powdered sugar, brown sugar, cottage cheese, applesauce cups, flour, halloween sprinkles (marked down; saving for next year), and molasses.

    Kroger -- $42.81

They were having a mega event thing where if you bought 10 certain items (mix-n-match) you got $5 off; no limit on the number of times you could do this.  I did it twice.  I bought 10 gatorades & the sale made them 49 cents each; that's less than the store-brand.  Then I bought stuff like yogurt, canned tomatoes, batteries, etc for another 10 items and $5 off.  I had a $3 off my total order coupon and found Qs at the store for the yogurt to make 2 4-packs just 49 cents each.

Apples were 99 cents for 3lbs!  I bought 1 bag since we are still finishing off last week's apples.  I got cheez-its for the pantry; they are a treat and we don't get them often.

The whole point of turkey is to get to the pie.

Re: November Food Shopping and Cooking

well one day into November and I have spent $132. some not really groceries but most of it was $75 at walmart and $30 at farm market.   $10 on halloween candy lol.  farm market the basics, lunchmeat, sliced cheese fruit and veggies etc.   milk, creamo, bread, soup, cat food, toothbrushes, poly stuffing and other things.   they had campbell soup for .50 so got a couple of chicken noodle soup for the kids.  didn't see the canned pancake batter this time!

the loaf of bread went at lunch with kids & dh sandwichs and I made 6 for lunches so dh got another loaf while I was at M & M meats. spent $32 there. they had a 80piece shrimp frozen with sauce in the middle for 10.99 weekend special ($7 off)  had a $3 off coupon that needed using so got a box of bbq chicken wings and cannellioni and a new york caramel pecan choc cheese cake on spec for 5.99 Devil

when I saw the shrimp ring I realized I can do an appetizer dinner for dd family birthday dinner at the end of the month.  have meatballs, and the shrimp ring, chicken wings so far so I can pick up other things.  also have an oriental party appy mix too.  make a veggie plate etc.   They like that kind of thing because it doesn't happen often.

have the pop special at safeway 3 cases for $6 (limit 6)  and cases of juice 3.99 each limit 4. great for lunches. so I will get them later in the week.
