Pat:Have you ever put off buying something you really needed because you didn't want to spend the money?
No, but we both try very hard to plan ahead and see what is coming that we'll need.
An interesting article on "spenders" marrying "savers" is here:

However, all things are relative. For a while I was married to a "spender" who bailed when I refused to take out a loan for a trip when we were already flat broke. Her solution to every "I wanna..." was charge it or take out a loan. I'll take out a loan for an education, a house or a car, and the wisdom of that is debatable. My theory is that if whatever the loan buys will last longer than the loan then one can justify/rationalize it if one is aware of the cost of the loan and factors that into the decision.
DW, on the other hand, is more financially conservative than I am. For example there is no way she'd ever spend five figures on a motorcycle like I did last year. BTW, I wrote a check for the bike, no loans.
And a few years ago I was the one who wanted to take $3k out of savings, pack up the car, and "just head west until we hit the Pacific". SHE was the one who didn't want to spend the money.
So one could say that in our relationship I'm the "spender" and she's the "saver".
