One of the great advantages of living in a rural area--nobody comes to the door--we spend $0

    Carmina:
I cringe spending $$$ on candy and I usually spend around $15-20 on Halloween.

I spend under $10 on the candy I buy for trick or treating.

Last year, we had a lot leftover and I stuck it in the freezer to dole out over the year. In February, I took it all out for my daughter to throw at a parade she rode in. I think our money went a long way.

way too much!  candy is about $7 for a bag 50 of choc bars here.  we love our candy!   so I buy some for us and some for the kids.  inlaws love them too! we have already gone though a box and a half of choc bars... also I buy them half price after halloween for the rest of the year.

We used to get about 100 but down to 50 -60 kids now.  I also get the mini playdoughs from costco from 80 for $12.99 they are put out for halloween but I use them for lots of things goodie bags etc.  I give the playdough to the little kids.

We decorate alot!! love halloween.  Will buy some things for outside from the dollar store and halloween goodies for goodie bags to donate for the school.

plus there is a halloween carnival fundraiser at dd school a couple days before halloween where we will spend about $20 dollars for games and stuff.

The inlaws come over and hand out candy while we take the kids around the neigbourhood. just a couple of blks. the neighbours are mostly older so they love to see the kids dressed up so do the inlaws.   the kids get more then enough candy from a blk or two.

this year we have the brownie halloween party, halloween fundraiser and meet the teacher night at night school all on the same night!

We usually have over 100 kids.  I bought a mix non chocolate candy and small candy bars--we had fewer kids last year, so I bought a little less than we did last year.  We spent about 30$.  If we run out, we'll turn off the light.  If we have extra, we bag it up and give it to the nieces and nephews.

At the end of the summer WalMart had big boxes of freezies (200) on clearance for $1. I bought three boxes and will put 4-5 in a snack size ziplock bag to give away. We usually get 80+ kids or more so this will keep costs down.

what do you buy for under$10?

Now that I remember, I have a stash of candy I bought for gingerbread houses (a yearly tradition, we are not going to in laws this year and therefore not doing it) I will use for Halloween.  I also have candy from the sales of after valentines I will use also.  Maybe I can also spend under $10!!!

Does anyone buy candy corn and cheap bags of unwrapped candies to put in little baggies to give away?  It might be more cost effective.  We have little kids who still participate so I feel I should give out some.  I just don't have as much money this year.

I have candy corn, but it always ends up getting mixed with peanuts and fall colored M&M's for snack mix that everyone seems to enjoy.  I set it out in bowls or take it to get togethers during the fall season.

We have to buy about 5 or 6 bags, we live a block from where our city of 85K has it's Halloween party, at the chiropratice college.  People go to the party, then go to the close houses- which is us.

This year I think I will save money buy buying dum-dums or some other safe candy that is not chocolate, which will keep down the costs.  Maybe little boxes of Nerds. One bag of chocolate for big kids.  I will use my SNAP to buy it, there is no other way to afford it.

If it is snowing, trick or treating goes WAY down.  Will have to see the forcast for Halloween in a few days, I think it will be in the 40's or 50's.

Tracy, you brought back memories when I was growing up in Cincinnati and we trick or treated in the snow. I remember mom telling us we couldn't go out and begging her until she gave in and let us go to the houses on our street.  My kids never had that problem. It was 88 here yesterday and 85 today.  We do have a cold front coming through tomorrow with a high of only 66.  I look forward to that, it will feel more like fall.
