How much do you spend on Halloween treats?

Do you buy mostly candy?  Do you buy other things?  How much do you spend?

Personally, I cringe spending $$$ on candy and I usually spend around $15-20 on Halloween.  Let me know what your traditions are.  I am eager to start new ones possibly not spending more on this holiday.

We dont celebrate and so dont spend any money. No kids cometo our house. There is very little trick or treating done here.
The  town has a costume parade and candy, prizes. Most go to that. When my kids were younger, we had pizza and watched a movie as a family. Babs

My family doesn't do Halloween either. In fact, we turn off all the porchlights, turn off the lights inside the house, bring in the dog, and watch TV as a family. This year, our church's Fall Festival will be held on Halloween, so we'll go to that. But we'll still be home before dark, so our usual "hide out at Halloween" tradition will live on.

Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour on Halloween!

We bought a big bag of candy for the church's Harvest festival.  We will stay home and celebrate Daddy's birthday (it makes for some great MIL jokes).

I usually spend around $20.00-$25.00 on Halloween treats but I buy good quality candy like Reese's, Hersheys minitures, Kit-Kats and M & M's then I go to the Dollar Tree and buy those treat bags 20 per pack and put a few pieces of candy in each one because if I wind up having to eat some of the candy I want something I would not have to throw away lol.  This year one of my neighbors is having a little Halloween get-together for the children and she is going to pitch a tent with pumpkin lights do Nacho's and cheese and hot dogs for the kids.  I bought her some paper plates with ghost design and napkins to match and also gave her 2 packs of Oscar Mayer winers and a day or 2 before the little get together will also buy her 2 packs of hot dog buns she is also thinking about a hay ride for the children so hopefully we will have nice weather and all of the kids will have a very good time.  When I 1st moved here I didn't have very many trick or treaters but one year I had about 25 it is popular where I live to have block parties so we will just wait and see.

On the treats that DH passes out, or the ones he eats?

Seriously, I volunteer to work on Halloween, even tho it is not holiday pay - many of the other RNs are young with families & would like the night off, so it buys a little goodwill at work, & gets me out of trick or treating.  When the kids were younger, we lived on a section between 2 cul-de-sacs, so I bought 1-2 bags of candy & it was usually enough. One bag would be enough where we now live, but DH eats the bag I buy a couple of times before the 31st, so I usually spend about $10 replacing "the bag."  He turns off the light at 8pm & goes to bed.  I don't mind passing out candy to the younger kids, but I don't appreciate teenagers with pillowcases full of candy, asking "those are small, can I take 2?", or just grabbing a handful, so when the local young children have come by, we are done & turn out the light.

I buy gluten-free candy to pass out.  That way, either DH can eat the leftovers, or they go into the grandchildren stash.

Around $10. In our new neighborhood, we have a block party and get a permit to put barricades in the street and let the kids dress up in the costumes and we hang out in the street and play games. It's a potluck and some people go home at dark to hand out candy but mostly people just stay in the street and visit and eat. There are bowls of candy so the kiddos don't feel like they missed out on getting a sugar-high.

We put a bowl on our porch with candy last year and when it was gone, it was gone. 1/2 of the candy was at the party (which was right in front of our house) and the other 1/2 was on our front step bowl. We didn't police the bowl but no one dumped the whole thing into a bag. Most took 1-2 pieces of candy and went on their way.

Re: How much do you spend on Halloween treats?

We live in a family friendly neighborhood just two blocks from a very good elementary school meaning we have a lot of young kids in our neighborhood.  I start purchasing candy the first of the month, however DH tends to eat it so a day or two before I'll purchase more.  This has become a joke among us, it's the reason I don't hold off buying until right before Halloween. It usually ends up costing around $30.00 because like another poster, I like to purchase the good stuff in case DH, DS and I end up eating it.  I've also in the past bought the tubs of Halloween pencils at Sam's and given those out to the neighborhood kids that I'm familiar with.

I usually buy three big bags of candy for Halloween, costing around ten or twelve dollars.  This usually lasts most of the time the city sets for our trick or treat hours, which always ends before dark.  I don't buy until just before trick or treating because we will eat it otherwise.  I take the kids out trick or treating and my husband hands out candy.
