Do You Have Holiday China ?

I've been online looking at tea pots today. I also saw holiday themed china patterns.

Do you have Christmas china ?

Would it be too impractical/non-frugal for me to purchase a single place setting for myself ?

Mind you, I have tons of other china in the house including all of Mom's china (she had lots of china) plus I have 6 place settings of 2 different china patterns of my own. Neither Mom nor I own any china that is strictly for Christmas.

I'm trying to start new holiday traditions for myself as I don't have invitations to family gatherings. Mom's in a nursing home. My aunt does not entertain anymore.

Once Mom dies, I'll probably start a new holiday meal tradition since I'm not too fond of turkey. One of the reasons I'm thinking of doing new traditions is that holidays are difficult for me. I miss what Mom used to do.

I have an inexpensive set of Christmas china. I used it until the family got to big. I have a few other odd Christmas pieces, I have a tea pot that I love. My Mom has a nice set of Christmas coffee mugs that we always use at her house for hot chocolate at Christmas. I would buy myself one place setting of Christmas china. It would be fun and  put some holiday spirit in your meals. I would probably use it the whole month of Dec.

I bought a set of 4 settings of xmas china eons ago cheap and they are still unopened in a box in the garage..I think!

have reg dishes and bought a set of china second hand from a thrift store a few years ago.  normally dinner is at the inlaws so don't really worry about it.

I was going to suggest buying 2 place settings so you have one when the other is dirty or still drying from just being washed.
The whole point of turkey is to get to the pie.

Do Styrofoam plates count? No china for me. Heck I still have plastic drinking cups since I didn't trust the kids with glass. They are 23 and 27 by the way.

When we first moved to this area 10 years ago, we moved farther away from family. We heard an announcement on the radio about some guy offering free meals to anyone in need and its served out of our local VFW. We decided to sign up and we have delivered meals every years ever since. And the guy is now our local contractor.

My sister had a co-worker who used to have "Orphan's Christmas". If he knew someone well and knew they were alone, he'd send out invitations. He only requested bringing a side dish or bottle of wine. I attended one year since I was at my sister's during the holidays. It was a marvelous gathering. It started out and stayed small. Maybe 10 - 18 people at the most. Most came back year after year.

We just use the regular china for holidays.

Nope, though we have holiday glasses and coffee mugs.   I just bring out the good china for holidays.

I haven't priced it there, but there is a Lenox Factory Store in Williamsburg. I like the china with the holly leaves called Holiday.

I'm still mulling it over about buying seasonal china.

We used to have decorated glasses for Christmas, but I don't know what happened to them. We got them when it was just Mom and me.

Right now the only person I could invite is a mooch and he's very, very boring. All of my other friends are involved with their families at Christmas.

I don't have any Christmas china. I do have some china, & we use it at Thanksgiving, Easter & Christmas if the family gathering is at my home.  I have water goblets that we also use for the family gatherings.  Otherwise, it is just the plain white Corelle dishes. I saw some very pretty serving pieces in white or orange "pumpkin" shapes in the ad for JoAnn's, & considered getting the salt & pepper shakers (shaped like little white pumpkins) the gravy server (also white pumpkin) a large platter ( white pumpkin) & the butter dish (dark orange pumpkin, but they were already sold out when I got there. Probably just as well; I don'thave a lot of storage space, & buying serving pieces that can be used for only one holiday would probably not be wise.  Sometimes fate saves me from myself.

Not at all.  One place setting doesn't take up much space to store & if it raises your spirits during the holidays when you are struggling, I think that is a good thing.

I would get two place settings, maybe even different patterns to match your mood, and don't forget to get a holiday bowl for Aurora. It doesn't have to match unless you want it to!Wink
