Share Strange and Expensive food Products you have seen lately..pancakes in a can..

I have been thinking of this ever since the Dr Otker shakers commercial came on a few months ago.  Up here in Canada we don't have the same range of products as the US but some strange overpriced things have shown up!  and I am not talking fancy cheese or salami!

The Dr Otker shakers where you add milk and shake and make 6 muffins or a few pancakes....almost $5 each here!  you can get muffin mix for $1 and do the same thing almost.

The kicker is the pancake batter in an aerosol can at walmart this weekend!  almost $5 for a reg size can same as a Pam or hairspray can. To make fluffy pancakes it claims!  maybe makes 8 to 10..

I am all for frozen eggo or aunt jemina pancakes for $2 on sale but 10 or 12 pancakes for 20 cents each..is a lot different for the sake of convenience. easy quick thing for the kids once in a while. they eat 2 each normally.

Its like that sliced peanut butter someone mentioned in a thread last year that was hard to believe but there was a website for that product!  I googled it lol

Recently I saw a bag of pistachio chips. I think they were mostly a multi-grain chip/cracker sort of thing with pistachio bits embedded into it. I don't remember how much they cost, but I do remember they were crazy-expensive. I thought to myself, "Well, are they chips, crackers, or nuts? They can't make up their mind.)

I haven't seen pancake batter in a spray can...that tops it all! Confused

The "cereal straws" are the weirdest thing I've seen lately.  They're straws made out of kids cereal such as friut loops and there is some sort of coating on the inside to keep it from sogging out.  Kids use the straw to drink their milk and then eat it.  Pretty pointless if you ask me.  Not sure of the price but anything sugar cereal related isn't cheap!

Aerosol pancake batter????  Give me peace!

I bought some of those straws on sale for the kids.  ended up giving away one box to the food bank.  they disigrate? when drinking the milk and the milk and straw ends up looking gross. so the kids didn't eat them and you waste milk.   I think dh ate rest of the box like candy.   was the fruit loop ones. the cocoa ones went to the food bank.

the price on sale was $2.50 a box.

lunchables came out with snack boxes.  graham crackers with applesauce plus something else similar. about the size of those ritz cracker and cheese things that have been around forever.  think they are like $4 for a two pack!!   even if you buy single serving applesauce and graham crackers they would be that expensive in relation to serving size.   marked down they still aren't worth it.

I had to get dh and show him the canned pancake batter.  kids and him were shopping in a different part of walmart.

My man bought the pancake batter in a can!!!  I wanted to smack him.  I appreciate the idea but it's SOOOO not worth it!

Call me weird or old-fashioned, but I think that a lot of the frankenfoods they come up with nowadays are strange.

I saw on a TV show the other night (I can't remember which one) where one company has come up with a self-heating "can", for things like hot coffee. Of course it's not a tin can. It's a plastic can. I think the "can" will probably cost more than the product when that hits the shelves.

well I can see why he bought it..I would have if it was a lot cheaper just for the fun of it lol.

I like novelty food items to a certain degree if cheap! and something we will eat like pancakes.   so that is about once a year  I would pick up something like that but has to be under $3.

Another negative side to these weird food products, besides price, is the packaging that ends up in a land fill. An aerosol can for pancakes?!? How many years will that take to decompose? Not to mention the aerosol gasses contributing to the air we breathe. There is also the metal wasted to make the can, and the energy to produce it all. WASTE, WASTE, WASTE.

That is a very good point Edey!

I can't believe someone thought it was a good idea to produce it!  It was in the cooler section so it has to be refrigerated so it is not like it is a camping thing.  and it is was just reg pancakes not some fancy flavour/colour like watermelon.
