What Is Under the Tree at Brandy's House

I have a start on my 2009 Christmas gift list and so far it's a frugal beginning:

    Husband

    • $1 Miracle on 34th St. DvD

    6 Year Old Daughter

    • $5.99 -ladybug necklace, ordered on sale from Avon
    • .99- Avon bubble bath sampler for the stocking
    • Free with register reward- stuffed animal lady bug to go with necklace as set
    • $1.17- stocking stuffer candy

    Son

    • $1.17 - stocking stuffer candy

    18 year old daughter

    • $36- Thanksgiving Holiday box from Angel Food
    • $3- Christmas kitchen towel and mitt set
    • $1- Christmas cookie cutters

    Mom

    • .25 funky mug that reminds me of her, I am putting together a tea basket this year for her and Dad
    • .50- wooden frame box that we found at a yard sale. This has poem about mothers on the front and opens like a box but hangs on the wall. My daughter has already picked and dried flowers that we are placing on some wallpaper or fabric to be affixed to the inside of the box.
    • $1 Miracle on 34th St. DvD

    Dad

    • .39- I found him a neat looking wall hanging from the thrift store that displays rope ties with a nautical feel.

Re: What Is Under the Tree at Brandy's House

lol I was thinking gardening picture!

I saw that ladybug necklace too and thought about getting it for dd. its so cute.

I have lots of things for xmas so far but mostly not that frugal. all sales items though.   only thrift store items are the books I found for mom and kids.

have  a bunch of pokemon things, battle station (mountain with waterfalls basically), book and some fiqures. its a joint gift for them.

ds has megatron transformer, a spiderman/sandman playset I got for $10 markeddown.  plus stocking stuff.  I think I have more but have to look.

dd still has a birthday coming up in nov so it is all stuff for either  kids sewing machine, little pet shop electronic game, little pet shop playset, stocking stuff.

there are books and a cheap digital camera for ds some day.

got dvds for mil from 1.99 to $5 on sale.

I have to go though the gift closet and sort things out when no one is home. all piledup in there.  also I have gifts for friends kids etc too in there and for donation for charity so all a big pile at the moment.

I've gotten started already too. But to be honest, not nearly as frugal as you, but still everything purchased was on sale for at least 25% off or more. Does that count?! lol

My Mom: a black w/ brown trim leather handbag/purse $30 (Kohl's); a fabric photo album filled with pics of her 4 grandchildren approx. $12 (includes the cost of photo prints)

    My MIL: an aroma melts warmer from Partylite ($25); 2-4pks of aroma melt tarts from PL ($9-got them half off); a teapot with fruit motif ($6-ebay purchase);

My SIL: a gold/silver pendant necklace ($25); jumbo cashews ($9)- all purchases through our school's fundraiser.

    My daughter: purple watch from Justice ($10); 4 outifts from Justice (apprpx. $110); a webkinz for stocking ($6.50);

My son: a webkinz for stocking ($6.50)

    My bff, Tammy: a gorgeous handbag from Kohl's ($45-was 40% off!);

So far that's about all I've got. I've got to go through my stash downstairs and see what I have that I can use for Christmas/birthday gifts. I'll redeem my points through mypoints to get my mom & MIL each a gift card to Kohl's, and if possible B&N gc's for the kids teachers to go in their little baskets/tins of homemade goodies.

Re: What Is Under the Tree at Brandy's House

I've taken care of most of the gifts for the godchildren, cousins, neighbor kids etc.  Too many to mention, but thanks to the deals I've been finding throughout the year, I've come in way under budget for those gifts.

The gifts for my immediate family, now that's another story:-

    • Mom - gold earrings (bought at a discount of 68%) - about $23 (US); also a set of photo albums to assist in the sorting of the family photos!
    • MIL - also gold earrings
    • Dad - nothing yet
    • FIL - no clue - he'd be happiest with a huge box of chocolates
    • DH - he wants an immersion blender with all sorts of attachments and gizmos (it's a lot cheaper that the usual gifts I buy him) - about $50.
    • DD17 - a few novels from the dollar store, a personal finance book - she is also asking for a specific handbag which I have not yet bought - that will total about $65.  I'll probably add something to that, like some jewelry.  Her tastes seem to be changing to more classic stuff, as opposed to the overly faddish clothes and acessories.  I'm thinking a nice, tasteful pair of gold earrings if I can get them on sale
    • DSD17 - have no clue yet, maybe an inexpensive digital camera.  She likes to take photos, who knows, it's might eventually earn her some money! I'd love to give her a personal finance book too, but she is not going to read it.  The only way she'll take in that sort of material is by way of an audio book, perferably with a background of uptempo music!
    • DSS19 - no clue -it's hard to buy gifts for him (employed full time, with a taste for expensive gadgets that are not in our budget) It might just be cheaper for us to give him cash!
    • DD11 - nothing yet as her wish list changes every two days.  I'm leaning towards an inexpensive but cool cell phone, which we can buy with the reward points DH and I have earned on our package. Now that she's taking up all sorts of extracurricular activities at school, I consider a cell phone for her to be more of a security necessity than a luxury.  DH suggested the Nintendo DSi or a new iPod nano - I have shot down both of those ideas because of (a) the cost and (b) the fact that she already owns a DS and an iPod which are both working perfectly.
    • BIL and his live-in girlfriend - BIL is easy enough (anything related to cycling), but his girlfriend is a bit of a challenge
    • DNephew11 - a video game, bought on sale $19
    • DNephew2 - an educational/ toy laptop - our "real" computers will be safe, and he will be learning too ($19)

I have decided this year to cut down the number of people on my list, and concentrate my $$$ on buying gifts of lasting value (e.g. educational toys/ materials, good jewelry, sports equipment that'll boost fitness etc)

I forgot to add the Angel Food order. For my oldest child, we ordered the holiday box as a gift of a traditional meal she can prepare for Christmas in her own home.

    So $36 more spent.

    DH

    • I've gotten NOTHING for DH yet, but he rarely tells me what he wants/needs until November and then I have to drag it out of him.  And to be honest I think he's trying to think of stuff that's a bit more inexpensive than what he's gotten in the past.
    • One idea -- more boxers.  I'll have to drive almost to Indianapolis (to Avon, I think) to K-Mart to get the ones he likes.

    Mom & Dad

    • Lots of home-baked goodies, which they request every year.  Mom doesn't bake anymore so she really looks forward to this.
    • I've also got a brag book for $3 from the clearance section of WM and I'm going to fill that with pictures of DD.  Will leave a couple of pages blank so that we can take pictures of the visit and add those later.
    • Will need to bake dog treats for the dogs since the chihuahuas will be coming with them for the visit so that's the dog's gift.
    • Bought Mom 2 chocolate oranges some time ago that had long dates on them.  Will give those as well.
    • I think I will send my mom $20 to buy my dad a GC to his favorite restaurant back home; it's local so I can't get it on the internet.  She can bring it with them when they come out here and I'll slide it into the stocking or something.

    DD

    • mermaid Barbie -- going to use my MyPoints gc to WM to get this for around $10
    • Hannah Montana art kit ($10 from clearance at WM) and will buy some plain paper from the dollar tree to add to this gift
    • ??? something else, but will leave that up to DH.  I know he wanted to get her that solar system replica that hangs from the ceiling and I think that is $20
    • stocking -- littlest pet shop pet with puzzle ($5 on clearance), addition flash cards ($1), subtraction flash cards ($1), digital littlest pet shop pet ($2 on clearance)

    Extended Family

    • Am making gift baskets that will have some spice mixes in them for easy seasoning additions to pork chops or chicken breasts; home baked goods (sugar cookies, some type of bar, and candied pecans); and maybe some sparkling cider for the New Year.

    DD's Grandma (her bio-dad's mom) & aunt

    • Gift baskets with homemade goodies, spice mixes, and DD will be picking out some gifts at the Santa's Workshop at school.  These will be a bit more simplified b/c they will have to be mailed to VA and I'll probably do that shortly after Turkey Day.

Will need to spend about $5 - 8 on Christmas candy for stockings; this will include chocolate stuff and gum.  Will be on the look out for sales.

Altogether it looks like we will spend around $200 for everyone's gifts, gift baskets, etc., but that doesn't include whatever DH spends on me, which I've begged him to be simple and restrained in his spending.

The whole point of turkey is to get to the pie.

Have you checked to see if you can order them online and have them shipped?

I use mine at Walgreens and get the stocking candy and some other stocking stuffers with it. MyPoints makes for frugal extras this way.

Sunshine, your post of dd going to Santa's workshop reminded me of when my niece was in elementry school.  My sister gave her some money to shop at the Santa's workshop for all of us she came home her mom asked to see what she had purchased for everyone well come to find out she only shopped for herself.  Guess my sister didn't make it clear to her the money was to buy gifts for other people.  Sometimes I still laugh about it she is 15 today.

Big Lots has some scrapbooking items. I found three packs of kitchen and recipe themed accents for $1 each. I bought one of each for myself for Christmas.

I am really looking forward to making the recipe scrapbook with my youngest. I need to go back and grab a few more packs for the manual I was working on for the older one. I have decided to turn that one into a scrapbook of home tips and recipes.
