As a Dollar Stretcher regular, I enjoy all of the wonderful  tips and ideas that people share.  I read, with interest, the article about diva dressing on a budget.  I regularly head for the clearance racks at the end of each season and scour thrift stores and even web sites that offer incredible deals on clothes.  However, all of the clothes that I find are for people who are a medium or smaller.  Seldom do I find bargains for those of us who are at least an XL or larger.  Any suggestions on where those of us with fuller figures could find similar deals on great clothes?

Same here. You would think that the "store buyers" would see how many small and medium sizes are leftover and order more in large and extra large.

There was a book that came out several years ago about how to determine your "style" - Casual - Sporty - Classic - Elegant etc. Part of the problem women fall into is that they don't know what their style is, and buy whatever the current fashion trend is rather than what works best for them. In the long run we waste a lot of money on clothing that really isn't flattering or goes out of style quickly. After reading that book, I got a better handle on what style looks and feels right on me. I learned to be more selective about what I bought and took better care of my clothes. If I find a company that I like that works for me, I don't mind paying full price. LL Bean has a standard knit corduroy pants in 4 colors for about $35. While some may balk at the cost, they are well made and have lasted a few years. In the long run, I've saved money.

I found his spring/summer seasons clothing was particularly unflattering no matter what size it was in. There seemed to be an abundance of ugly hanging on the racks this year.

No kidding. And the fall lineup doesn't look any better.

OP - if it makes you feel any better, I wear the "average" sizes. They're frequently sold out, so if I find something I like I buy it.

I know there are great deals out there from retailers, but I sure love my thrift shops best!

 I drop in to my fav thrift stores on a fairly regular basis, but I seldom find clothes in my size.  Why do designers feel that the larger woman wants to wear such voluminous clothes?  It's nice to find clothes that fit and flatter a fuller figure (say that fast 5 times....lol).

Here there is a consignment store for larger sizes.   I don't shop there.  too cheap lol.    but I know others that do and are happy.

I have found things in thrift stores but have better luck at sales at places like Reitmans or Addition Elle.   love Reitmans.  I got 5 pairs of pants for $50 including tax a couple of months ago.  dress pants, jeans and casual yoga style.   all fit normally. no low rise!

I have similar problems myself.  Have you tried eBay at all?  It can be time consuming to look thorugh postings but I have found some great deals.  Also, when shopping online have you looked at websites that are specifically for fuller figures?  I have bought some things online, but my Mom buys most of her clothing exclusively online and has found some good deals.

I have bought kids clothes but not adult clothes. I have good luck at stores and thrift stores for my size. 18 - 20 canadian size.1/2xl (depends if it strinks)  US sizes are different then Canadian sizing for adults. 

My thing was the bras, 42dd or e (courtesy of the kids)  is hard to find in reg stores. but now Walmart is starting to carry fuller figure undergarments so that makes me very happy!   $25 versus $125 for a bra!

 It's just as bad on the opposite end of the weight pendulum. I am very underweight and very long in the arms and legs. I cannot find anything to fit me except skinny jeans for a student (guy's clothes) and mens' or boys' shirts. Women's clothing long enough for me is many sizes too big. There are no shops for very thin people, at least not here.

A mems' small from Bean, T-necks, will fit me pretty well, but otherwise, I am just not able to look really nice. It's frustrating no end not to be able to find anything I can wear.

Every now and then they have free shipping offers, and the thing I love most about that website is they post customer reviews of products, and they dont appear to delete reviews that are unfavorable toward the company. One stop plus is basically several stores that all seem to cater to larger women, all on one website.

I just ordered some sweatsuits on there, and am very happy with them. What I do is order one size larger, in case they shrink in the dryer, but I found out I shouldnt have done that with the poly/cotton blend.. because they dont shrink, or not enough to notice anyway! I love my clothes fitting loosely, but I would recommend you both read the reviews and order your size if it's a poly/cotton blend, which I'm sure you already know! LOL!  And, I'm not affiliated with that website in any way, just happy I finally found clothes that fit me without having to pay the outrageous prices at Catherine's and other boutique type stores.
