Recipes for Sept '09 Angel Food box

    Here's a family favorite:

    Lazy Golombki casserole

    Serves 4-6

    1 lb ground beef

    salt and pepper to taste

    1/2 onion, chopped

    2 cans tomato soup

1 soup can's worth of water

    1 tsp dried basil

    1/3 cup raw rice

    4 cups coarsely shredded cabbage

Place the cabbage in the bottom of a large, Pam sprayed casserole dish *(that has a cover) Brown the beef along with the onion, rice. Season w/ salt and pepper.  Top the cabbage layer with the meat mixture. Mix the 2 cans of soup w/ one can of water, basil. Pour evenly over the top. Cover and bake @ 350 for one hour. Tastes just like Golombki's without all of the work, and is even BETTER the next day, assuming that you have any leftover.

    Enjoy!

OK! I'm cooking this tomorrow for my sister. I have a huge head of cabbage in the refrigerator that needs to be used up and this will help. It looks good!

I am sure those of us who use Angel Food have one or four as well.

I am looking for ways to cook potatoes and onions myself.

Best way to cook those is together in a frying pan. Smile

I was considering potatoes and onions together. I may do something like roasting them where I brown the potatoes in a little oil in a pot on the stove then add water to cook them in to soften them. I have never added onions to it but it sounds tasty.

    Never??

Anyway... I roast onions, potatoes and carrots together sometimes. You could leave out the carrots. I pour a little oil over them and toss to coat, then put them in a casserole dish uncovered and sprinkle with garlic or lemon pepper.

    Never??

In this particular dish that I do stove top, no. I have roasted potatoes and onions in the oven both with chicken or a beef roast.
