    October Shopping and Cooking

I am starting this as I ordered something that I'll be picking up on October 7th.

I ordered 4 packages of 2-3 servings of pecan and herb crusted pork tenderloin from the local gourmet shop. It's frozen and all I have to do is heat it up.

I will most likely heat up the pork loin for a meal with either mashed sweet potatoes or with pureed winter squash that has a splash of pure Maple syrup in it.

My pantry pretty much covers all October needs except dairy, eggs, and fresh produce. There won't be much shopping.

I probably had enough stuff to eat in October, but this pork entree sounded so good. I don't cook much pork.

Awesome shopping day today!!!  I really stuck to my list only buying a couple things not listed that were good deals.

At Aldi I bought the usual stuff, but I also restocked my tomato sauce, a container of chicken broth, and some marked down pudding cups (DD loves these for dipping a banana!).  I bought 1 splurgy item ($1.89) and that was some seasonal french vanilla mix; I won't mix it with water though.  I use it as a sort of creamer in my coffee.  It's powder so shelf-stable.  DH might like it, too.  If he does I'll buy at least 2 more.  Using it this way I only use a spoonful at a time instead of the 2 1/2 T if I were using it as a drink mix instead of flavoring.

At Kroger I scooped up some awesome deals on seasonal produce -- a 5lb bag of gala apples for $1.97 and a 10lb bag of russett potatoes for $2.97.  The one thing not on my list -- turkey pepperoni.  I really want to learn to make my own pizza and I have all the other ingredients on hand, so next week I intend on learning.

    Aldi -- $24.06

    Kroger -- $23.13

Dollar General (2 bags of black beans) -- $2.00

Total out this week (and my lowest since moving!!!!) --  $49.19

The whole point of turkey is to get to the pie.

I miss Food Lion.  The media ran them out of Texas.  Oh well!  I'll be doing some shopping this weekend.  We have been eating out of the pantry for a month, and I'm LOW on a lot of essentials.

Not sure what all I need, but will be looking tonight and shopping tomorrow.

pumpkin1074:  I didn't realize Food Lion wasn't in Texas anymore.  I know we don't have them in my part of the state.  I used to go in there all the time when I was in the Dallas area.  I do remember a newsmagazine doing undercover reports on them but that was a long time ago.  Is that the media you are referring to?

I don't have many choices in my part of the state.  The large grocery stores we have are headquartered here so they have succeeded in keeping other chains, with the exception of Walmart out of the area.

    Hello all,

I am in for the challenge of keeping to my budget this month.

I ran out of cat food and popcycles, so I had to go to the store tonight to start.  I picked up some cat food for .31 cents a can, let's see if they like it, if they do, I am switching.  It didn't smell bad, and they are in here licking their chops, so I think it must be gone!  ;-)

I picked up a couple other items.

I am out 14.25 and saved 2.56 in club and a coupon.

Tomorrow I will be adding to that total.

Good luck stretching this new month!

    Re: October Shopping and Cooking

I expect a $750 expense this month. If I can't meet the budget then I'll be pushing back this month's Angel Food order into November.
