The only thing I saw worth saving on was cheese for $4.99  2 lb block.  This isn't bad but I stocked up when it was $1 for 8 oz last week for all varieties. That comes to $4 for 2 blocks.  Sports drinks were on sale for 4 for $2 but I try not to stock up on that because they get used as fast as I can buy them.  I"m actually glad there aren't any good sales this week as I was visiting the "big town" yesterday and just shopping at Winco there is like a big sale to me.  I spent $90 of my alloted $100 there so I have $10 left for the week that's just starting( from wed to wed.)  But I got tons of stuff and I"ve been hitting lots of good stocking up prices the last month- veggies at 3 for a $1, canned soup chicken and tomato also 3 for $1.  Butter for $1.44 a lb, laundry soap was $3.99 for 30 lbs bucket/120 wash loads.  Happy shopping and planning those good meals. Still got a full garden of goodies too, so I don't need the tomatoes for $.79.

    blessings,

Pears, mangoes, oranges and apples $1 a pound
(isn't it too early for a fresh crop of apples and oranges? - these are probably from somewhere else)

    ground beef - .99

    Corn chips, 19 oz - 1.77

    corn - 5 ears for $1

As an aside, does anyone use mygrocerydeals.com? When you register, you can skim the grocery ads for your area. It's pretty handy, since I don't get a newspaper regularly.

I really need meat but I didn't see anything worth buying except the chicken.

    Re: What's on Sale?

Here in Austin Tx.  it is a poor week for sales.  It is mostly overpriced back to school sales for those who had/wanted to wait until now.

    Ground beef   $2.89/lb

    HEB Ice Cream  2/$6.00

    Blue Bell @/$7.50

    Milk $4.98/gal

A & H laundry soap 2/$7.50  32 Loads   (not a sale if you asked me)  got it last month 2/$6.00 with a $.50 coupon doubled to $1 + a store coupon. It is usually $3.29/ 32 loads

Meats and Dairy are all up this week, not many sales.

HEB has buy 2 pkgs. hot dogs and 1 pkg. shredded cheese and get 1 can chili, 1 bottle catsup, 1pkg hot dog buns, 1 32oz soft drink and 1can of ranch style beans free.  You can also use coupons on the hot dogs and the cheese.

They also have buy 2 pkgs. of sausage and get a free pkg. of pasta and a free can of pork and beans.

    Re: What's on Sale?

    • 80 percent ground beef, $1.29 (no limit!)
    • Johnsonville brats, 2 for $5 (I like the heat and serve - good for emergency meals)
    • Watermelon, $2.99
    • Eggland's best eggs $1.48 w/ 35-cent coupon that doubles (I usually buy eggs from a farm family, but they like me to reuse my cartons. I buy store eggs when cheap enough just so I have extra cartons)
    • Lemonade from the local dairy - 79 cents with a 30-cent coupon that doubles
    • Kraft cheeses - shreds and chunks 8 oz $1.67
    • Borden American cheese singles $1.38 w/ 55-cent coupons (have 2 of these)
    • Store-brand bottled water for camping - 24 .5-ltr bottles for $2.98
    • Farmland pork breakfast sausage in a roll - 99 cents each w/ $1 off two
    • Betty Crocker Suddenly Salad (yum-o!) 99 cents w/ 50 cents off 2 that doubles

I think that's all the really good sales. Still have tomatoes from the garden. I'm going to make a big meatloaf or two with the cheap ground beef, probably some hamburger patties, and brown the rest for instant dinners w/ spaghetti, sloppy joe sauce, etc.

I'm so glad one of my local stores has double coupons so I can take advantage of some convenience foods. Sometimes it's so hectic that an emergency convenience meal is lots cheaper than the fast-food drive-thru window.

I have a store with apples on sale too. It says "New crop from Washington" -- I didn't think they'd have apples yet.

Maybe they're just coming on early this year, some things seem to be. If that's so, I'm getting some. Fresh apples is one of the reasons I love fall!
