On the "Human Body..." book, it's do-able, but it WILL take all year to complete.  I don't remember what prerequisites were suggested, but my bet is we didn't do 'em, lol.  I'm sure you could skip a chapter or two without losing much of the text.  I ordered a blood type check kit with it as IIRC, it's one of the experiments.  We didn't get the workbook/colorbook but dd would have enjoyed it, I think...Liz

Brandy, here's a amazon link to some of the books:

We have spoken of having disagreements with our husbands on homeschooling in several different discussions here. My husband and I are disagreeing on these books.

I thought it was worth buying one to see if this would suit us. He has concerns that the Christian content may not leave enough room for a more in depth view of science studies.

We have both found Chrsitian texts to be good in the past so I think it's just the way the description was pitched that concerns him. Do the books cover concepts well enough for a student to get a good grasp and wide view of matters?

I feel each book is a good overview of the subject; for in-depth studies you will need a curriculum. I am using them for a good all-around view of subjects I don't plan on covering in depth. mainly Physics, Chemistry, History of Mathematics, and History of Medicine. My son is going to do the Biology book too although he's had a year of Biology already. That is something he seems to enjoy and do well in.

I don't think the briefness of the books have anything to do with the Christian viewpoint. It's just because it's trying to cover all major concepts in a short period of time. However, being that way, if a kid has a short attention span it is easier for them to get through a chapter in these than a large textbook. I am having my son work on 2 books at once for his 'science' class right now.

I started out with 3 of them just to see how they were and dh actually read them first and enjoyed them...but he really likes science stuff. Although he didn't care for Saxon physics when I bought it either.

Tell your dh can if you don't like it after perusing it you can always return it to Amazon. I've done that and Amazon has always been good refunding my money as long as it was within 30 days. I mean, it may not be what you're looking for. Sometimes you just have to touch it, turn the pages, and read for yourself before deciding. That's what happened with us with both Saxon, and the Keys to... series for Math. Although they were reccommended, it just didn't appeal to us after getting them.

    Hope that helps.

Better yet, Brandy, if you want i could mail you one of the books that we aren't currently using and you could look at it. Just email me your mailing address and you can mail it back when you're done. maybe your dh would agree to that.

I am not really clear on what my husband's concerns are so I think I am failing at explaining them well, lol.

He has commented that he is concerned that the Christian approach may not cover some topics or may gloss over them too quickly.

    What topics though?

Evolution? We believe in creation and teach that. I do a quick covering of it so the kids are aware of concepts and theories that are out there.

Reproduction? If one book doesn't cover this well, that's an easy one to remedy. I can use other sources and intend to hit this one more deeply with some sound materials on "dating" and making good and mature decisions.

Regardless of what we use, it is in addition to the book I use as a spine. I wouldn't be changing the topics I will be teaching by adding in the books I want to order. I only want them to add more content for reading and studying.

My husband told me he would discuss this with me again as he didn't have time to offer me more explanation so we just the time to go over this, I think.

Brandy, we used a book called "Total Health:  Choices for a Winning Lifestyle" by Susan Boe for our health credit.  It's expensive, IIRC, but very worth it - I ended up using all or parts of it for each one of our kids.  The reproductive chapter alone is worth the price, IMO. Might be worth a look for you...Liz.

Yes most of that subject is covered in Health classes...we used Lifepacs HealthQuest in Jr High and High School Health in 10th grade.

For nuts and bolts of reproduction, you are talking Biology.

Another good thing about Boe's book is that it can be used at both the junior high and high school level - whole or in part.  Yes, I think it would cover a biology credit and probably nutrition and P.E., too - it could be stretched to cover many requirements in addition to electives.

I've used many LifePacs over the years - I like their core curriculum a little better than their electives.  Many of the electives seemed 'disjointed' to me and rightly so as each section can be written by different authors/writers.  If you like the A/O format, you might have a look at the Christian Light material you talked about earlier.  They flow much better than the LifePacs, IMO...Liz.

We used Christian Light in the elementary years along with Rod and Staff, until they got too much into the Mennonite-Amish doctrine.
