Both Latin and Greek are in the planned curriculum for our younguns. Bubby has already started to pick up some Dutch and modern Hebrew (DH's two native languages), and hopefully will develop a degree of ease with Biblical Hebrew just through the whole religious school-bar mitzvah process. We believe you can't really understand a culture unless you understand their language!

I have a friend whose homeschooled daughter was going to transefer to a public school. They WOULD NOT accept her Latin class as a language class...they wouldn't give her any credit for it.

Actually I don't know of any schools in my area that teach Latin. I don't remember it being in my school in the early 80's either. Maybe it's a regional thing.

 I took four years of Latin in middle/high school in New York state.  I moved to I lllinois midway through my high school years and didn't have to take any language classes, my Latin was twice as much as what my new classmates had to take.  I believe my background in Latin has helped me understand English better, and also I can understand some words in other languages by knowing the root Latin words.
