    September Budget and Expenses

Is everyone still on track for budgeting expenses and keeping those expenses within the budget.

Have you laid out your expected expenses for September? Now is the time to do this!

    I wish.

I have a confession. With all the problems with my son in August a tremendous amount has been put on the credit cards for dining, going places to do things, extra gas and groceries. Our vacation this week is going on the cards. All in a last-ditch effort to make home more appealing than moving in with friends.

Dh said when the tax refund comes we'll just pay off whatever we can; otherwise just keep treading water.

At the beginning of August I had a budget and a repayment plan figured for what we did owe at the time. Then it became a necessity that whatever the cost we had to tear ds away from from piosonous relationships, which meant finding other things to do with him to keep him busy.

I think the past couple of years financially have been difficult on all of us. I'm hoping we are over the biggest part pf the crisis now and I can get back on a budget and tell my son when we can't afford something without him getting upset with us.

I can't be an ostrich anymore.  I do need to come up from the cold dark sand, get used to the light and figure out a way to get to my goal.

I have some idea where we are, but I need to talk to DH about setting up a sheet of paper and just every night asking each other about what we spent that day.  We don't do a lot of spending in other places, but it would help us both to remember if we've paid a bill or if it's been paid automatically.  This will help us see exactly where we are in this new environment.  I think I'll talk to him about this tonight.  We just need to remember to check every few days for auto-payments from our bank accounts so we don't miss anything.  It will also help us to know how much money I will need to bring in with my future job, whatever it may be, to cover any gaps we have in our income vs. expenses.

    Re: September Budget and Expenses

well it is the start of the expensive season for us.  birthdays!  ds,dh,sil, student,dd, fil, my mom and mil and xmas plus about 4 kids parties I am sure by feb. not counting our anniversary plus thankgiving, halloween and valentines day.

doing a joint birthday party for both kids for their friends in a couple of weeks so should be the cheapest yet at $200.

ds family birthday party is this month plus school fees also. so that is why I want to cut back on the food budget save money.

other bills are the same, our basic bills don't change much.

I do want to start tracking our spending again or at least mine!

     If Only...

Dh is still unemployed and things are getting bleaker by the day.  We are going to be about $1200 short for September unless work comes our way.  We are now entering our third month of unemployment.....

I've looked at ours and it will still be tight.  We should have about the same expenses as we had in August.  Only a couple things I can think of that will be different.  DS#1 has gone back to college and that helps a great deal with the grocery budget.  Don't know where that skinny kid puts all that food, but he eats like two people when he's home.  DH is still unemployed (since Jan of this year).  But he is attending full time classes at the local community college and will get a Pell grant check the middle of September. I plan on using some of it to restock the freezer and the pantry.  The rest will be saved for future expenses. So, we should be OK for September but I will keep a close eye on expenses and be as frugal as possible.

We are right on track,  paying off discover 559.00 this week and paying off dell 1200 this first of october. That only leaves visa 4800 and citi 2300, which I plan on paying off buy july 2010 if not before. My car will be paid off in nine months and then all that will be left is 25000.00 on my house. We are staying under budget with our 900 a month living expenses that includes groc, gas, etc. We are doing really good considering I was layed off for two months and my dh had a small stroke I think they called it a tia I keep calling it a tmi lol, but everything went back to normal real quick. I still need to really bulk up my savings.
