Wink [;)] Natural products used for household remedies...

Does anyone have a remedy for CLEARING out clogged drains from the gunk that builds up in there and slows or stops the drainage that is ALL natural but actually works to break down the gunk in the plumbing and get the water draining freely again. I do not  like using such things as the drain cleaners at the store due to the chemicals. I would love to get any and all ideas that people have on using NATURAL SAFE non chemical products to clean, refresh, deodorize, and UNCLOG drains.... Any and all suggestions are gratefully accepted. I feel the less of these chemicals that we buy in stores to clean and use everyday withouth realizing what is in them that we can help our environment turn around and become healthier for the next generation and maybe even help us until everyone starts to realize how dangerous the chemicals in cleaner of any kind are to us as humans, our pets etc..

Hope to hear back from many of you and your ideas. Looking forward to being all natural before the end of the year .... a goal I hope to make

PS How in the world do you get the little smiley insert to go into your post? I have clicked on the little icon several times and all it does is make a funny noise, but no smiley face in my post.... What am I doing wrong?? I know this is off topic but just curious I see it in other posts, but can't seem to get it to work in mine. Thanks guys.... look forward to hearing back from you on info above as well as my little smiley face dillema :)

I promised my plumber that I'd call him if I had a problem. Why ? Because I am a klutz and I would really make a mess if I tried to undo a clogged drain.Wink Same thing if I tried to replace a toilet seat. Some things I can repair and some things I cannot repair.

I am, however, very good at getting a toilet unclogged by using one of those plungers. Mom would stop up all 3 toilets in this house at least once a month. I got tired of calling our plumber for that problem.Wink

I also change the filters for my vents. I just wait to do it on days when I am not really crippled by pain from arthritis. I have to get down on the floor for one vent and up on a ladder for the other vent.

You click on the smiley. Then when the little page comes out you click on the symbol you want to us.Big Smile

Try a cup of baking soda followed by a cup of vinegar then boiling water. Use a plunger after that and see how it goes. (hats off the Amy Dacyczyn for that one)

You could also purchase a "snake" from a hardware store and run it down the drain.

I agree with the baking soda and vinegar remedy. That seems to be a tried and true, natural unclogger.

For refreshing garbage disposals, try putting orange or lemon peels inside it and running the disposal. That makes it smell fresh.

Actually I tried that by clicking on the little icon with the smiley face and it only makes some clunking noise but does not allow me to insert a smiley in my post. I must be doing something wrong OR have something set up wrong if there is a place to set preferences up. Since I a new to this site I'm just not sure how it's done and it doesn't seem to want me to know either .. LOL....  nope tried it again and it will not give me icons to pick from....

Actually I have tried that, and it does bubble up and works great in "open" drains that don't have a stopper in it that is bolted to the pipe under the sink. But in my sinks in the bathroom and also the tubs they have stoppers in them that are NOT removable in the sinks, and the ones in the tubs are really a pain to get out... So a plunger cannot be used because as soon as you use it the plunger it pushes the stopper down and closes off the sink. I may not be discribing this with correct terminology but suffice it to say it has not worked because of the stoppers in my sink drains..... But thanks a lot for the quick responses....  I look forward to hearing more on other topics as I get used to using this site...

    Used ground coffee works too.

Plung, plung, and plung somemore. Then baking soda and vinegar help.
