Wednesday, August 19 $$$ Stretching
Tuesday was difficult for me. I ended up bawling my eyes out before I took a shower with my favorite bath gel.
I got to the class and I found out that I knew several of my classmates. I dragged in my chair from the car because I was afraid I'd fall out of the chairs at the shop. I just didn't want to fall. I asked for a ginger ale and I enjoyed it. I ordered a case of it and it'll be in next week. One of my classmates had seen the doctor who took care of me when I broke my ankle. She agreed with me that he had a rotten bedside manner, but he is tops in his field. Then I made my classmates howl with laughter as I said that Dr. Skinny's new office is 2 doors away from the ABC Store so that I can go there afterwards to buy vermouth for the onion soup Dr. Skinny told me to make and eat when I get sick. They also howled with laughter at me saying that she prescribes a hot toddy.
I am getting my hair done on Wednesday. Then I'm going to the library. After that I'll head for an expensive once in a long time lunch. I kinda feel like heading over to The Blue Talon for burnt sugar ice cream. On the other hand, a steak would be nice.

Re: Wednesday, August 19 $$$ Stretching
i had a very busy tuesday. igot my eyebrows waxed at the salon so a little money out there. i have too much trouble seeing to do it myself and i would just rather pay my beautician to do it. than to mess them up. i go once a month. it is sort of my little treat to myself.
there was a meeting for the parents of kindergarteners last night with the teachers. it was about what is expected of the children this school year. it lasted a bout an hour and we could take the children with us, they went to a rooma dn had activies for them to do. afterwards,ds and i made a trip to walmart to get him a new leapster handheld game. he was used and given to him and it just got worn out, i promised him i would get him another one. he also needed some new socks and underwear. eh has grown so much over the summer.
my dad came over today. he trimmed the tree in my front yard and cut the grass. he also did some other trimming. he called me and said he was coming over and i was getting ready to go to lunch.
i went out to lunch today with a new friend. he is a very nice gentleman. heasked me to go the other night when we were chatting online. i have been out a couple of times since my beloved dh died. i told by new friend that i am willing to go out to lunch and things but i am not ready for a relationship. he is much the same way. he has been divorced for well over a year and just needs some companionship. he said he gets very lonely. he has two teenage daughters, they live with his ex wife. i felt a little bad about going to lunch, but i have come to realize that i need to be around other adults. i am hoping this will be a nice friendship for the two of us.

Re: Wednesday, August 19 $$$ Stretching
DD had a bit of a meltdown this morning b/c a skirt that fit a month ago no longer fits; she really grew all summer this year in addition to her big growth spurt in the spring. Big changes in the clothing department. The only stuff that still fits is her underwear b/c it was too big! LOL Normally one or 2 pieces carry over each season; not this year. Am going to both near-by towns today, so will stop at Goodwill while in one and see what they have that DD might like. I have a list of tops to shop for and 2 bottoms. Not a super stretchy day. Will need to fill up the gas tank; going to the town south of us for a check at the BMV so they can finally get my plates in. Then going to the town north of us to get DH's script (more on this in a minute) and will go to Goodwill to look around. Quite a bit of driving, but that will happen from time to time when you live in the country. DH's dr's office called yesterday. His cholesterol numbers are not where they should be. His good number (HDL) is a bit too low; His bad number (LDL) and triglycerides are too high. B/c DH's dad had 3 heart attacks, had high cholesterol, etc. and b/c of DH's other medical problems they have prescribed a medicine for him. (Can I just say yay for $4 scripts?) I did lots of research last night on a lifestyle change and will be spending lots of time in the kitchen today making some changes that I can make right now. One big thing I'm going to do is pre-pack snacks for DH. I have already posted a list for him letting him (and me) know what foods he needs to concentrate on and which foods he needs to limit. I will buy some slightly different foods when I shop to help with these changes. A lot of stuff we already do, but some things (like processed carbs from crackers, pretzels, etc.) we are really bad about. So that will be the big change for us. I say "us" b/c I would never make DH make these changes alone! I posted a day or so ago in the "can you help" section about reading my water/gas/sewage bill. If you get a chance, check it out, b/c the town office is closed so I can't yet ask them about it.... Thanks! <3

Re: Wednesday, August 19 $$$ Stretching
VNW, I am sorry youhad such a rough day yesterday. I'll keep you in my thoughts for a better one today. Today should be moderately stretchy, though of course we're still running A/C given the heat and humidty. Only money out will be my prescription, which is a fiasco in and of itself due to "manufacturing problems." I finally found some locally, but I've got a call into my doctor to see if I can be switched to the only other alternative on the market in hopes that is more readily available. This is life-saving medication for me, so not being able to get it is a huge problem. All meals from home. Breakfast was oatmeal with fruit for DH, and greek yogurt w/fruit and granola for me. Lunch is leftover venison & wild mushroom stroganoff in a brandy sauce (we used our recent chanterells and oyster mushroom finds for this, and it was wonderful!), and dinner is The Frugal Gourmet's Cooked Greens w/tomatoes and garlic over rice. DH is cooking, and we picked up a copy of The Frugal Gourmet at a local thrift store a while back. We both loved the show as kids, so it has a special place in DH's heart as he learns how to cook. I'll train today, get my prescription refilled, and come home to work & do household stuff. Tonight is grating zucchini, and skinning & freezing tomatoes to can later (we did 13 lbs. last night, have another 20 to do today, and will can Friday).
Still waiting for more news on the house, which also means we're still looking around for other options. I am starting to pack up the back room. We also got all our final stuff in and final approval to host children in emergency situations; so, we could start getting children any time. Have a stretchy day anyone!

Re: Wednesday, August 19 $$$ Stretching
VNW, sometimes its good to release some tension and bawling is the way to do it. I wish I could do it more, I would be more relaxed. ;-) Feel better honey!
I am up early and getting ready to take DD to grammas for Daycare, today and tomorrow and then I am home! I am looking forward to sleeping in and only wish I had money to take a small vacation of sorts. That's not gonna happen for a long, long time! Staycations for the rest of my life! LOL
I made pasta and today taking some of the leftovers for lunch, PB for snack. I have some fruit at work. I think tonight I will take out some hotdogs for the weekend to have handy.
Today I get to find out what the discount is (5% probably) for the daycare expense, BUT it only makes it about the same as last year because it went WAY up. I was not ready for it. But more ready than I could have been. Its still over 3000,00, so all in all, I will have spent 7000.00 this month alone (floors) and it was not good timing or planning. It was hard to do... having a hard time, but it is keeping me focused for sure on spending.
No money out today!

Re: Wednesday, August 19 $$$ Stretching
Once dh gets off work we're off to one of our favorite damaged freight/discount stores (Buda's) to get some stuff for Sunday then we'll go to the mall across the road and get ds#1's present engraved for $6. Dd#2 has dr's appointment for her foot @ 4:30, a couple weeks ago she stepped on a fine sliver of glass and I thought I
had gotten it out but when I looked yesterday it was infected. I
drained it lastnight and treated it with some proxide but I still don't like the looks of it.
There's a pre paid co-pay on the books so the only $ out for her should
be antibiotics if she gets any. Once all 3 ds's are up we're finishing up the back yard which requires a little weeding around the gazebo, finish mulching the gazebo (leaving the roses for dm on Thursday since that's her feild of expertese), picking up the bark and weeds that haven't been binned or pailed up and putting them in bags and getting the weed wacking done. Most of this can be done in a couple hours probably with a lot of flack but ds#1 is starting to like the idea of the yard looking nice for the party so he'll be cracking down on the other 2 when they goof off (ds#2 most likely). After we get the yard in shape we turn our attention to the house and getting that cleaned up. This is ds#3's week to clean but ds#1, dh and I agree his idea of clean isn't good enough for a party which means the entire house will be getting a scrub down. Ds#2 is cooking supper tonight but hasn't said what it will be yet.

Re: Wednesday, August 19 $$$ Stretching
Good Morning to all...
Kinda warm on the drive into work 86 at 5:50am...but did not run the car a.c.
Had dinner with daughter last night - it's the same place the president ate at when he was here on Sunday...food was ok but service was poor-ordered the happy hour drinks...took 15-20 minutes to bring them just 2 of us at that time and another 25 minutes before we could "find her" to order food and they were not busy-most tables were empty another 35 minutes after ordering just to get the appetizers...and it went downhill from there...I think too that I knew I had an hour's drive to get home...after a 10 hour work day just to late for me- I' m getting old....
Today is the end of my work week-I will return to Indiana tomorrow and spend a week with Mom :)
Take care and be kind to yourself

Re: Wednesday, August 19 $$$ Stretching
Falconinburgundy: Sounds like you and I maybe taking the same medication. I have the same trouble with one of mine and like you say, its life saving so not taking it isn't an alternative. I've been having issues with pharmacies being able to supply it since January.
Woohoo!!! Pudge is back with the Rangers!!! I guess you've all figured I'm a Texas Rangers fan.
Not much going on here today. I'm at work and have Dave Ramsey being streamlined over my computer. DH and DS want to go camping this weekend, kind of a last time thing before school starts on Monday. We went and got the camper out of storage last night and made the beds, etc. I'm not much of an outdoorsy type but family really enjoys it.
Pulled out some meatballs from the freezer to the fridge to thaw for spaghetti tonight.
Have a great day.

Re: Wednesday, August 19 $$$ Stretching
DH car repair was very expensive. They found a sensor that was making the oil pressure drop (or the guage said it was dropping) so in addition to fixing his AC, that was repaired as well. The warranty expired in January and the guy told DH "all this would have been under warranty." Ugh. Well, we didn't get the extended warranty b/c we didn't want to pay the extra money. So now we have a $700 repair bill. I told DH I would call my credit union and see what my balance is and he knows he has $500 in one of his accounts so I think we can avoid incurring debt for this. Ugh, ugh, ugh.
Anyway, today should be a better day. It's the first day of school here for all public and many private schools. Kids walking to school everywhere, bleary-eyed, and tired, LOL. I remember how tough it was to get up early again once school started.
I have lunch meat for sandwiches for lunch. A friend gave us 2 canteloupes from her garden so will have that for dinner tonight. We have chicken in the freezer I can set out at noon so may just do that to make it easy. Cucumber salad along with that will be a good meal. Yum! We are trying ot keep our grocery bill under $60 a week for the summer with all the produce to supplement our meals and we have a freezer full of meat. So far, so good. Any money saved will help with the car repair bill. Ugh again.
VNW: I hope today is a better day. I'm glad you had fun at your class, at least that was a bright spot to the day.
Take care everyone!

Re: Wednesday, August 19 $$$ Stretching
Morning! VNW - big hugs. I am a believer in crying to release frustration and hurt but I'm hoping you're feeling better now : ) I am looking over our cable bill trying to see how much we could cut it back. If we just did without the movies, we'd save nearly $25 a month. (but dh is fighting to keep the movies, and I get it - I love being able to watch movies - these are not the premium packages but just the Starz and encore movies, but they still cost.) I looked at our phone bill and we could save about $25 there if my ex actually paid for the children's phones like he agreed to (do I sound bitter? I just can't imagine going back to court to get him to step up, tho). And after a summer of washing some things in warm and most things in cold water and not seeing anything negative about only using cold (which I used to when i was just starting out with my babies) I plan to wash all in cold water. That's my change for this week. Trying to do one big or small change each week through the end of the year. Thanks for letting me think out loud. We will be eating at home, and working around the house today. DH already golfed his 18 holes. DD is at work. DS is at college (sob!) and DD1 is on vacation through this week between her paid internship and the beginning of classes. Me? I feel a nap coming on....peace.
