Re: Looking for cheap ways to make ICE TEA?

thats good because I find that is the easier one to find here.   I buy frozen lemonade, apple juice if I find it on sale pricey, lots of juice blends. sometimes punches because they are cheap at this time of year and the guys drink lots.  I try to keep to real juices as much as possible.  I did get more koolaid pouches that you mix with sugar because I am buying a lot less pop etc this year.  on a hot day we can go though 2 jugs in a day.  so once in a while is ok.

our student seems to think drinking out of a jug instead of a can is the end of the world. same with water and ours is good.

I have done both used the coffee pot to make ice tea just fill with water and drop in 4-6 tea bags. Then pour into a pitcher add more water  & sugar is desired. & I have done sun tea.

I also liked to make homemade simple syrup here is the recipe. Simple Syrup  which makes tea that is already cold sweetened and you avoid cloudy tea as well if you have a household where some people like sweetened and some don't.I make the Simple Syrup and pour into a mason jar & refrig it. Using approx 2 tsp per 32 oz of tea

I recently at a yard sale purchased a Mr. Coffee Ice Tea maker for $3.00 love it it allows me to make a batch of tea fresh quickly and it free's up the coffee pot.

    Pat:

I make iced tea from loose leaf for guests, but I have to drink decaf, too, so I make it from the decaffeinated tea bags by Lipton. I just boil water in the microwave and make it as for a cup of hot tea, then add another cup of cold water to it. One bag will make about two glasses, so a box of 48 bags for around $3.00 will make around 96 glasses of tea.

A little more than a penny a cup is wonderful deal. You don't mention sun tea, but I don't make sun tea because boiled water should be used to kill bacteria.

No. I boil water on the stove in a small pan, add the looseleaf tea, cover and let it steep. Then I strain it into a little cold water in a pitcher or jar  (to keep the hot tea from breaking the jar) and add water.  A tea ball is too much like a teabag, in my opinion. Tea needs to be steeped loosely, so the water can get to it from all sides.

I usually buy herbal or flavored teas on sale/coupon. Aldi and the dollar store also have good prices on tea.   I have a half-gallon container; I put 3 tea bags in and cover with water I boil in a teakettle.   I especially like Lipton's lemon herbal tea with a sprig of fresh mint thrown in.  (I grow mint, so it's not an extra expense.)
