Several years ago I kept the cardboard box that pop comes in (the 24-can box). It's only opened at the tear-out area. I use it to store my grocery store plastic bags. I save the twist ties off bread. I save zipper packaging from things I have bought, etc. I save the plastic sleeves newspapers come in. They all get used.

just thought of another one...i re-melt candle ends to make jar candles to burn in the fireplace, when it smells damp.  i have to buy the wicks, but i reuse the wax and jars.  and i make fire starters with the same wax, sawdust, and paper egg cartons.

    what's your stunningly cheap secret??

When I make our goat's milk soap, the molds I use are the plastic containers that Hostess cupcakes come in.  I also use the plastic containers that hold individual servings of fruit for lunches - they are half rounds, & actually quite sturdy.  Everyone in the family saves them for me.

I've dumpster dived and inventoried post-move and eviction garbage piles in transient neighborhoods and behind apartment complexes.  I would keep every bottle of shampoo and conditioner I found, and dump these little leftovers, plus some water to wash out the bottles, in separate milk jugs.  The milk jugs, labeled with the good ol' Sharpie, stayed in the shower for easy access.

    Brilliant idea.

I'd love to know exactly how you have done that, because I need a new one.

well, ya see, that's the cheapest part!  i am very obsessive about brushing and flossing (because it's a cheap way to save money on dental bills, of course!).  so i frequently use a piece of floss, then twist it up and stick it in my jeans pocket- just in case i need it again!  it's only been in my mouth, and it's only going in my mouth, so it's no worse than using a finger to dislodge something.  and sometimes it gets run thru the wash, and it's still good!  like i said, the cheapest thing ever....

My kids bath toy storage bag is a mesh onion bag, it's by far the best bag we've had.  I've used toothpaste to "spackle' nail holes in the wall.  I've used white nailpolish to touch up dings and scratches on white appliances.  I've used a black Sharpie to color out bleach spots on black clothing or to clean up a scuff on a black shoe.  I've gotten items for pennies on the dollar and regifted them to thrilled and non-suspecting recipients (even items from thrift stores that were NWT).  I use newspaper for "weed cloth" in my garden, works great.  Those are some of my "cheapie" things I doSmile

The cheapest thing that i've done is to recycled some used items and sell it to the cheapest price.that's all.
