what's the cheapest thing you've ever done?

i bet this has been discussed before, but i couldn't help myself after this morning's project!

my clothespin bag was falling apart, so it was time for a replacement.  i made a new one the same way i made the old one; heck, it lasted 4 years or so!  used a recycled mesh onion bag and the same plastic-coated wire hanger from the old one.  i had to shorten the bag a few inches and sew a new seam across the bottom, so i was going to use dental floss so it wouldn't rot.  wait, here it comes.....so i pulled out the piece of dental floss i used last night, out of my pocket, and used that!  oh, go ahead, laugh!

and what's your stunningly cheap secret??

Ok, I'm laughimg, but I might very well have done the same thing. I'm not sure what's the cheapest thing I've done, but I save strings from teabags, tie them together and use them to tie things together, tie up plants, etc. I was going to make a caterpillar thingy for the houseplants, but it didn't work out.

I'm not sure that's the cheapest, but that's all I can think of right now.

I regifted a wedding gift in a gift bag that I got as a wedding gift.  No cost shower gift!  However, I don't consider that cheap---just frugal.  As far as being cheap---if DD doesn't drink all of the milk in her sippy cup at night, I put it in the fridge and give it to her again the next morning.  No need to waste the milk.

I went dumpster diving because I saw a lamp that someone threw away. I didn't want the lamp, I just wanted the little screw that you turn to make it turn on. I had a lamp that needed a new one, and I didn't want to buy a whole new set of "works" for one little screw.

We had someone do that and forgot to take their card out!  LOL.  Caught!  (I didn't say anything to them though)

I always reuse gift bags!  lots of people I know do.  it is a waste not too unless they are damaged.  I still have baby shower bags from my shower that I told family they are going to get for gifts so I can get rid of them!!  I regift gifts too sometimes to people we know or more for raffles or xmas gifts for charity.

I am sure I do lots of cheap/frugal things that I don't even think of.    I mean reusing plastic grocery bags for garbage liners, shovelled cat litter, as dish covers for food in the fridge.  kids are always taking packaging and reusing it for other things.

all under the name of recycling!

I can't wait to read what everyone is going to post!!   I have made clothespin holders out of milk jugs - tightwad gazette design.  I have gotten some great pieces of furniture dumpster diving.  I, too, have regifted many times.  I have made gifts out of the freebie sample products.  When I used to clean houses for others, I would ask for old magazines that were in the trash - they were still clean!

I look forward to reading others ideas!

Well.... the most recent thing involved my cross stitch. DH has been diligently making frames for all my projects and then we'd go to the hardware store and get glass cut for it. One day we were driving along and he spotted an old window frame on the side of the road. Immediately our minds registered how much money we had been spending on glass. We picked up the frame and got a 24 x 32 inch piece of glass out of it.

I have learned to make a very nice bow and I have been saving the twist from the loaf bread to tie it all together.
