    A Somewhat Frugal Birthday

Another birthday has passed at our house. I applied frugality to our daughter's gift selection again of course.

For her 6th birthday we got:

    • A bath set with a sample collection of Burt's Bees bath products, three roll on colored soap paints from Avon and a Cinderella electric toothbrush.
    • A Gigi, God's Little Princess paperdoll play house set
    • Gigi's Tea Party story book
    • A plush doll
    • 4 nylon butterflies to hang on her wall
    • A slip and slide
    • A cake from the bakery to celebrate

    My total cost was $70.

The Burt's Bee set was on sale, I had a coupon for the toothbrush, I bought the paperdoll set and book through Amazon sellers that offered them as new at a fraction of the price of retail, the doll was a thrift store find, the butterflies were from the dollar store and the slip and slide was a good price at Walmart. We chose a cake from the grocery store bakery section that had colors and flowers like a birthday cake but cost less than a specially ordered one. I topped the cake with candles left over from last year.

We have a happy little girl who I think should still be an infant, not a six year old.

Mom and my oldest daughter came out to spend the day. We went shopping and out to lunch. My youngest really enjoyed herself. Later that evening my in-laws came with gifts and spent the night.

It was an eventful weekend for the whole family.

wow another year! seems like you were just writing about her last birthday!     sounds very nice!   great gifts.

I have seen the avon roll on soaps but worry about them staining our tub since is a covered tub (over an iron tub) not ceramic.

I have stashed quite a few gifts from sales for the kids birthdays.   decided only to give a couple because they get enough and they haven't used all the presents from last years kids party.  partly because I put them away and forgot :)

It washes off pretty easily but I am not sure how well it would on your tub.

If you decide to try it, hide it from the kids and sample it yourself first. Then you don't have to worry about their reactions if you have  to toss it.

Yes it can. It makes a nice gift though.

fairy stuff and the wings of butterflys

That sort of thing along with princess stuff is easy to find. Thrift stores and dollar stores are great places to get things cheaper too.
