Ooops-pressed the post button before i typed.

Don't know if this store has been discussed on the forum but wanted to ask - I recently started shopping at Aldi's and was very impressed with their prices.  Have others had good experiences with Aldi's and their products?  Thanks!

I don't live near an Aldis.

It's been discussed before. Everyine seems to like the prices.

It's not cost-effective for me to shop at Aldi's because there's not one that's close enough to justify the gas and time. But several members use and like Aldi's.

I love Aldi's. Their products are great. I do tend to avoid certain produce as it definately has a short shelf life. When I can't get it free or cheap I go to aldi's. Was there last night to pick up frozen canned juice, bagels and a couple other things.

When I asked God "why don't you help all the suffering people?" He said "thats what I put you here for".

We recently discovered the Generic Coffee Mate flavored creamers there for $1.99 ( in the frig portion). The "Coffee Mate" brand got so expensive we quit buying it. What Aldi's carries taste the same for a lot less.

I shop at Aldi's for  most of my groceries and I like it a lot.  I buy their cereal, yogurt, canned food, pasta, produce, really almost everything.  I really like that they have lower fat choices now, they didn't used to have such a great selection.  I can't think of anything we haven't liked from there except the beer, my husband said no way, lol.  Oh, I do prefer to get my whole wheat bread and the regular grocery store, simply because I don't like the wide pan bread they have at Aldi.  The taste is good but the slices are too big to fit in the sandwich containers for my kid's lunches.

    Re: Aldi's

I am very happy with Aldi.   I agree that sometimes the produce spoils too quickly and there are some things that my family doesn't care for so I skip those items.    What I usually do is shop Aldi first and then go to the my other two grocery stores for loss leaders as well as the balance of what I couldn't get at Aldi.  I usually do an Aldi trip one to two times a month.

Here are some of my family's favorites (I have a 6yo DD and 3yo DS):

Cereal, milk, eggs, peanut butter, jelly, ketchup, snack foods, cheeses, frozen juices, diapers, rice, tortillas, chicken breasts, chubs of ground beef, corn dogs, bread, eng muffins, kids yogurts, bagels, cream cheese....that's most of it.

What I did was try one of each item when I started going and if DH said NOPE then I didn't buy it next time.   He has some rules - Hellmans Mayo, B&M baked beans, fresh deli lunchmeat - if that's all it takes to make him happy then I stock up on his favorites when on sale.   Although a few times I gave him something without telling him to see his reaction - some good - some not.

Enjoy your Aldi shopping - I think if you have one close enough it is worth it.

Thanks for the feedback.  I actually just got back from another Aldi's run.  Eggs for .88 a dozen, skim milk for 2.09 a gallon.  The prices are great and so far, so good as far as the quality.  I agree re: the produce.  Although, I did buy bananas (forgot the exact price but it was way lower than supermarket) and they were fine.  I almost find it more relaxing to shop there because you don't get overwhelmed with so many choices of coffee, etc.  So, yes, my shopping strategy is now loss leaders at the supermarket and Aldis for the rest. (I do buy my produce very reasonably at a local place.)  I haven't tried the meat yet at Aldi's. I heard their pork ribs are good.

I've not had any problems with the Aldi produce.  I've liked everything I've purchased there except the peanut butter and the ketchup.  Make sure to get several of the hams (Applewood Farms, I think is the brand).  They are only in the stores from about Thanksgiving through Easter.  They are glazed and spiral sliced.  Here I can get them for $1.48 per lb and they are just as good the Honey Baked Ham brand hams.
