Needs to pay off a title loan

    Question from a reader:

I have a title loan on my 2004 f150 for three thousand dollars. I know it would be better to get a loan and pay it off but with a bankruptcy on my report I am having a hard time doing so. Do know how I could accomplish this problem?

Does anyone have any ideas for him?

Unless there is some reason that it all needs to be paid off immediately, I think using a debt pay off plan would be adviseable. I like the concept of cutting back spending severely and putting money into an emergency fund to prevent any farther debt for unexpected things. Once that fund is in place then the freed up funds can be applied to the loan.

Re: Needs to pay off a title loan

If I'm understanding it right you want to take out a different loan to pay off the title loan. Is that so you can clear the title to sell it? Is it necessary to sell it now or can you keep making the payments on it. What is the interest rate on that loan compared to what you may (or may not) be able to get to pay it off. I think your best bet is to do everything you can to scrape together as much cash as possible to pay it off without taking on more debt. See if there is anything that you can sell by having a yard sale or take stuff to a flea market and try to raise cash for that loan.  Edey
