I don't live in California. I don't keep up to date with the finances of other states as much as other people do. I also do not discuss politics. I very seldom will discuss religion. No, it's not because of the rules Pat and Brandy enforce. It's just something I don't discuss. You won't find me talking religion or politics in real life either.
I've had to learn a lot about the requirements of things here in Virginia where I reside. I didn't know until this past week that to install a septic system in Virginia you have to have an electrician do something (my septic tank guy explained it to me, but I don't understand exactly what it involves). I'm having to install a complete new septic system at the rental house. I am in the process of selling this house and then I'll rely on my accountant's advice along with my broker's advice so that I can have enough money to pay for my elderly Mom's care at the nursing home. I'll be investing the money to my best advantage for Mom's care. As Mom's Power of Attorney, I need to be able to take care of Mom's wishes including making sure that she not have any heroics if she has a dramatic change in her health. Mom is totally against receiving chemotherapy if she develops cancer.
I face daily challenges about having to find enough money to cover Mom's expenses, the expenses for the real estate Mom owns, and the cost for my own health care. Unlike many people on DS I do not have medical insurance. I do not qualify for Medicaid. I also have to deal with having to watch Mom's health go downhill rapidly. You have no idea how heartbreaking it is to watch a near genius decline with dementia in addition to her other health issues. In addition to Mom, I am seeing how Mom's older sister who will turn 90 later in July fail both physically and mentally.
I don't post on this forum just how much I cry because of Mom's declining health. You have absolutely no idea how many boxes of Kleenex I've gone through since 2007. The only way I manage is to take life one day at a time. It would be quite an eye opener for people if they tried to walk in my shoes and they faced the pain I live with daily because of the 5 screws and metal plate in my left ankle plus severe arthritis.
I am indeed sorry that the employees in California are facing financial woes. I'm also sorry that so much aid is being cut in California in an effort to balance the budget.
