    Generic Product Eliminations

    Angry

Not happy right now. I was in Walmart to buy replacement heads for my razor but when I walked down the aisle (6x), the brand I was using was eliminated. There is no ~cheap~ brand out there anymore. I know the replacements were around $4 and they had some in that price area but not enough information was on there to show if it would work on what I have. I'm basically down to buying name brand and throwing a good razor out and paying the outrageous prices for razor refils which I know, in time, will be outdated, so then I would have to buy another new razor. (Hanging on to what I have since I have 3 refils left but I need to decide what I want to do now).

I think the term for that scenario is "planned obsolesence." Manufacturers change things around so we have to get new razors/computers/cars/whatever. Gone are the days of good, sturdy products meant to last.

I posted a short while back about the cost of shaving. I mentioned I have been using disposables because they are significantly cheaper than replaceable blades.I have not seen cheap blades in the stores for sometime. Our fillable razors would cost $20 a pack and that's not a huge pack either. For my husband, that's about two week's worth of blades!!

This is one of my pet peeves about Walmart. They carry items at a fair price, get people sold on them and then out of nowhere they stop carrying them. It feels likes someone is determining my choices through elimination. Why change what sells?

I know that is frustrating.  I've ran into that problem myself.  I have noticed that the local dollar stores are now carrying replacement razor heads (not just whole disposable shavers).  Maybe try checking out a local store to see if they have any?

I've also had the problem of products being "redesigned" to be "new and improved".  No, not really.  I've had this issue with baby wipes and disposable diapers from a few different brands.  The "improved" versions are subpar and don't work as well.  It's obvious that the materials used are cheaper (wipes are thinner, diapers not as absorbant).

I could but I don't want to pay for shipping and also risk it not working also, which would be the same thing if someone else looked, the risk of it not working.

I think what I'll end up doing is just stretching the use out of them for the summer, then I'll be non-eco friendly and use disposables until I find something I like.

Wal-Mart isn't the only one doing it. I was in Family Dollar the other day and they no longer carry the 1 bags of candy and several other things I always bought there. Things are sure changing and not necessarly for the good.
