Re: Shopping and Cooking in June

June budget has already started for me.  Went to market yesterday and got more than just produce.  ;-)  I used a 5.00 off coupon with a 50.00 purchase, so I spent more than I should have.

I cooked yesterday as well, made lots of meatballs, (not so tasty), made some banana muffins for dd too.  Also marinated some chicken and will cook that up today.

Didn't do so good on May budget, but hopefully, my June budget will be better.  May is a long month right?  Ugh...

Re: Shopping and Cooking in June

I've made out the shopping list for June and the total is $672.76 before any discounts; $644.47 with all discounts/coupons (excluding AFM box savings which for us will be about $45 for June).  That total includes 3 AFM signature boxes, additional food purchases and all household expenses.  The food total alone will be $348.50 (before any discounts/coupons) which comes to about $29.04 per person per week.  That's not bad.  But, it is just a list of what we intend to buy and that changes a bit each month.  I'm trying to keep from $50 to $100 free each month for the last week to ensure that we have enough for any unexpected purchases and there are some items on the list that we could put off buying if needed.  I feel that we wouldn't have so much in our pantry and freezers now, nor have this flexibility in our budget if it weren't for AFM food box savings.

    June food and household expenses budget:   $714.47   ($672.76 - $28.29 disconts/coupons + $70 holding for unexpected expenses)

I wonder how this compares to others.  We are 3 adults with 4 cats.

I went over our May budget, but not by much. I had the budget set at $600, and I spent a total of $615.86. I'm sure if I were to look back at the receipts, there is/was plenty that we could have lived without. I just need to be more diligent about things is all.

I'm going to set our June budget at $400, and hope that I'll stay on task, and be more on top of things. I need to use up much of the meats we have in the freezer this summer, as about 1/4 of it is venison, that is slightly over a year old.

I think the $400 will be more than enough to purchase dairy products and fresh produce, as well as any deals that come along. And hopefully it'll be enough to include a month's worth of dry dog food for our 3 dogs. In the summer heat, the dogs don't usually eat as much, so it we might be able to squeak by this month.

I haven't boughten any groceries in over two weeks.  I'm trying to hold off until Wednesday or Thursday.  Friday through Sunday we have guests coming to spend the weekend with us.  We also have guests for two parties this month and a family reunion at the end of the month across the state.

In addition, it's our wedding anniversary this month.  So we have a lot of reasons to celebrate.  My DH's last check was on the 27th of May.  We'll receive his next check middle of September.  So we're going to have to really watch our spending and make sure to use up everything.

I'm staying on the May budget until then, which was $200 for the month and which I'm going to be just barely under or right at by the end of this week.  I've budgeted $300 for a stock up trip for the new house and then about $100 a week for the first few weeks we're out there b/c I'm taking so little with us

Are food prices similar in the area where you are moving to?

I have no idea.  Tonight, I'll do some research and see how things are....  I did notice the Kroger ad 2 weeks ago for where I'm going to be in IN was twice as long as the one for here in VA.  It seemed there were more legitimate sales, but I'll do some more investigating.

     Sunshine,

I would give myself some more money initially, to stock up on baking things, things for the freezer, fresh spices, sundries like Kleenex and laundry soap.  It will make life easier to have a stocked house.  I would budget $400 to get things started up, with a few of dd's favorite treats, bread for the freezer, a stash of tp, all the essentials!

May was horrible budget wise. I went $150 over :-( It wasn't that we couldn't afford it, and considering that we are making a huge paradigm shift in our eating habits it might not be so bad. I am budgeting $75/week once the Farmer's Market starts -- IF I can get all my meat & fresh produce there. No more money out until then (2nd half of June). I finally feel comfortable with the amount of grains I have, but I may need some more rolled oats soon. This is no more than normal, it's just that I usually shop for 2 weeks at a time.

This is my budget focus. No more excuses! It is possible to eat organic, eat local, & eat fresh and still hold to my budget. I'm up for it!

Spent another $16 at Walgreens. Got $3 RR so I have $6 that I will need to spend next week. That will be 2 gllons of milk. Also had a coupon for free 20 oz Coke. Total out so far is $32. Really trying not to spend this month. We pay car, house and daycare libility insurance end of June. Also trying to finish up the veggies and fruit that are canned and frozen from last year.  Babs

Re: Shopping and Cooking in June

spent close 200 dollars so far.   but $71.02 of it was prescriptions and pharmacy items not food.  spent $30.06 today at safeway.  lofthouse cookies were in the discount bakery area so I got 5 boxes $2 each cheap.  2 or 3 for the potluck tonight and a couple for the house. plus a 125 pack of foam plates $11 so no dishes and corned beef to go with the discount buns I got for a easy dinner.

bought  some vitamin water. not stretchy at $5 for 6 but this week of heat is killing me.  with my shoulder, allergy attacks, constant mild sunburns.,  I am sweating like a pig to put it bluntly.

sweat is rolling off of me.   I had some lemon lime carbonated water but it exploded over me this morning so quick cool bubble bath is order before picking up ds.  already got a large iced coffee though mcdonalds.  they remodeled so menu deals so I think I will go there for lunch with ds .79 cheese burgers!
