Re: Shopping and Cooking in June

I blew my food budget in May. I found so many great deals on 2-for-1 at the grocery store, that I stockpiled quite a bit. I had spent my entire month's budget in the first week of May! We had a good variety of food to choose from this month, but when we ran out of fresh produce, eggs, milk, etc., my money was super-tight. I need to make myself save some of my budget for needs at the end of each month. Maybe June will be better...Wink

I pick up my very first Angel Food order on June 20. I am planning to order some more for July, but my order needs to be in before I receive my June order. I am hoping that I will like it, or else I'll be stuck with two months of food!

I am planning to spend $300 on regular groceries and toiletries, plus I've budgeted $100 for Angel Food. (I think...my budget is in another room...) The $300 seems high to most people, especially since it's just my DD and me right now, but I am hoping to get some more good deals for stocking my pantry and freezer.

Why is this? The distribution sites are set up to receive orders for the next month when you pick up then as far as I know, additional order dates are after that, usually two weeks before the pick up or so.

Ok, I misread the website. I went back to AFM website to check out how my host site does their distribution, and it looks like the June online ordering deadline is June 14 for a June 20 pickup. I am going to assume the dates are similar for a July order.

Thanks! That helps a lot. Smile

(Don't mind me, I'm still an AFM newbie...)

LOL! I was thinking you had an odd site or that you may have mixed up the months.

When I picked up my food today, I was given a hand out that has a few articles and the menu for June. I had the option of ordering then for June or waiting for a following order date. My hand out from Angel Food  has my distribution center's order dates stapled to it.

Around June 15, the July menu will come up on the Angel Food site so those of us with the net can get an early peek at the foods. I order at pick up time so this helps me to decide what I want before I go in.

I am budgeted for $250 a month for 2 of us, but I only buy whole and organic foods, so it is a bit more expensive. I belong to a co-op and I get a discount there. Should have no problem staying on budget, no big family get togethers or birthdays. And I am committed to using some of the home canned goods up, to free up jars. The garden is planted and I will need the jars. Don't want to have to buy more.

I won't be starting my June food budget until we get to Indiana on June 10th; I'm staying on the May budget until then, which was $200 for the month and which I'm going to be just barely under or right at by the end of this week.  I've budgeted $300 for a stock up trip for the new house and then about $100 a week for the first few weeks we're out there b/c I'm taking so little with us.  We've really been focused on eating what's in the house and buying just a bit each week to get by, which was mostly milk and produce with a random item here and there.  Today I'm hoping during my "breaks" from packing to start making a list of what I'll need to buy once we're out there.  I think $300 will be enough.  What do y'all think?

The whole point of turkey is to get to the pie.

Are food prices similar in the area where you are moving to?

Re: Shopping and Cooking in June

June hasn't started yet for our budget, first paycheck in June will be June 11th.  Just had last May check come in Thurs, and did well on budget all around with that, largely due to this being my first check with 80 hours, as well as the raise from my promotion.  Next check will give us the rest of the funds for vacation, it'll have my $2/hour summer differential on it, as well as holiday pay from Memorial Day.  Quarterly bonus is due in on one of the June checks, only about $80 this time, but a bonus is a bonus in my book.  So we're definately in a feast time here!  We're not planning on altering our budget any, just packing anything extra into savings, and then to eliminate our one debt, a personal loan that has a balance of 1800.

Grocery Budget from this check did well.  About $10 incidentals early in the week, 4.73 @Family Dollar for cat litter, and 82.51 at Walmart(included stocking some personal items from coupons).  Have 4.31 left in grocery budget until 6/11, which is just enough for bread and milk, and dinners are all planned and shopped for already.
