    Should I Or Shouldn't I Take This Class ?

The local arts school is offering a class in Williamsburg Wreath Making/Decorating in early December.

I'll make a smaller fresh wreath from scratch.

I'll be learning how to decorate a fresh wreath Della Robbia style using fresh fruits, berries, nutsm and dried materials such as pods, flowers, fruit, pine cones, etc.

The class is $35 and the supply fee is $50. This class would be much more expensive if I took it at Colonial Williamsburg's facilities. I'd be able to make other wreaths in the future.

Should I sign up for the class ?

In my own life, I could not justify the cost of the class and the materials. That amount would buy a good cartload of groceries for the week or church outfits for all 3 kids.  I know I sure wouldn't pay $85 for a  wreath.

Now if you are considering opening up an etsy or ebay shop, that may be a little different.

VNM, I think you should take the class.  You live alone and the social interaction would be good for you.  Crafting is something you enjoy.  Granted the cost is high, but the enjoyment factor would cancel that out.  You could make several wreaths for the nursing home, the beauty shop, Dr. Skinny's office, etc.  In December you don't go out to eat much since the weather is bad, so this could be from your dining budget.

The supply fee seems high, but I suspect the teacher fro the class will not be gathering her own pine cones, etc. Fresh wreaths are a little pricey, but can be found for less.  The $35 will let you learn how to do this, & that creates another option for an ongoing nice, frugal gift if you gather the materials yourself during the year.  Pine cones, pods & nuts are not that hard to find, & flowers& fruit are fun to dry.  This is something that you would enjoy & look forward to sharing with others.

VNW, I think you should take the class it would be something you enjoy doing and you would probably also make some new friends even if the class is a little pricy you save your $ in other ways so you may as well treat yourself every now and then.  Who knows after taking the class you may be able to open up a small little business or sell on e-bay.  Whatever you choose good luck

First let me say this. If I had kids, I wouldn't consider taking this class. My first priority if I had kids (after my dh) would be to educate and dress them.

But....I do not have a dh or kids. What I have is a very spoiled kitty. The money for classes does not deprive her of good vet care or food.

I would like to get to know more people. I also would like to know more about making wreaths.

Well, then, I think you have your answer. Take the class.

when you are a frugal person, its hard to justify spending $80. on a purchase.  but since no kids and no dh,  and no bills due,  i'd go for it.  afterall, where will it go when you aren't around any longer???

I'll be paying for my classes with my money and not Mom's money.

Trust me, I do know how hard it is to stretch $$$ these days.

VNW, sometimes we spend for experience over things. this is both.

Learning is NEVER a waste of money. And I have a journalism degree, so I know how it can look like a foolish investment.Stick out tongue

I think adding the wreath crafting to your store of skills will make you happy as you could make them for others.
