    Edey:
I, too, have learned quite a bit about the Jewish religion and traditions from what you have posted and am finding it very interesting.

Ditto. I enjoy reading the things that Deb writes.

I pray that you can re-Kosher-ize (?) your place soon Deb to stay well!

DeborahMichelle, I love the practicality of this. Part of my path is the idea of Sacred Hospitality--and some of the hospitality rules can be suspended when someone is hurt or injured (for instance, if  someone is injured, even if an enemy, render aid).  Funny to see how similar!

Dear Edey, Yes, Judaism does encourage practicality.  Within marriage,, it encourages on the Sabbath for couples to be together.  It is considered the wife's right to cuddle.  That topic is just one example.  Love in Him, Deb

Dear Kate, Well, hospitality was a sacred virtue in Homer's Odyssey as well as beginning with Abraham in the Hebrew Bible.  Yours in Him, Deb

Dear Sissy, As I wrote, there are 3 commandments that CANNOT be justified in breaking under the doctrine of pekuach nefesh.  One is murder, which you seem to be alluding to.  (The other 2 are carnal siins, & blasphemy.)  Yours in Him, Deb
