    How frustrating!

I'm praying that they reimburse you quickly and with no more hassles!  We want you to have very little stress so that you can fully recover!!!  So glad to have you back!!!!

seaturtle, it is absurd and I can't figure out the logic. If it "can be eaten in the store" and hot, it is not allowed. However, if the same product is in the refrigerated section, which includes loads of prepared cooked meals, it can be purchased. Now, the person has to go home, warm it up, use fuel, gas, electricity..minimal but still. Maybe they figure why sell someone an expensive hot meal when they can make their own cheaper and they're trying to teach the people a lesson...but if this is their logic, why allow the SAME meal cold? And if you can't buy something that can be eaten on the premises, well, can't the cold salad bar be eaten on the premises? Yes! So whoever designed this rule has rocks in their head! I'm not sure if you're on SNAP yourself so may not know that even though this is in the written rules, the individual managers can bend the rules. Several supermarkets here do allow hot chickens and hot salad bar. I personally don't use it because it takes up too much of my allotment and is generally very greasy stuff but one day, did buy a half of a cooked chicken when I was too tired to cook. Also, one supermarket does not allow the hot OR cold salad bar...go figure!

Dear Mimi, Life without stress would bore me, I am afraid.  However, overstimulation -- too much stress coming from tooo many angles at once -- does make me frazzled. Thanks for your good wishes!  Love in Him, Deb

Dear Susie, Boy, have you & other folks educated me!  I bought a cold Middle Eastern salad plate once at Whole Foods, & SNAP paid without any cavil.  If in the future, I were to hear that "luxury goods are not covered" spiel, I'll certainly know to simply identify teh errant item & remove it (ONLY) froom the transaction.

Thank you, all, for makign this crystal-clear for me!

     Deb,

Just a little light touch - what would happen if you got a hot chicken when you went into the store, then had them put it in a freezer so that when you checked out it would be cooled?

That should show how utterly senseless this rule is.

I do not have SNAP, just foodstamps, and I get a cash payment every month so there are no restrictions as to what I may buy. Other people, though, get foodstamp allotments which are only for certain foods, not things like tp.

I have no idea of the reasoning behind this, either. But then, does it make any sense not to illegalize cigarettes?

Hi Seaturtle...when you said you don't have SNAP, just foodstamps, SNAP is the abbreviation for the new term for foodstamps (they don't use the paper "stamps" as you know, just the card). It stands for supplemental nutrition something, I forget. So I am not really clear on that. Do you have the card?

Dear Seaturtle, I love your sense of humor about freezing the hot chicken!

SNAP is jusst the new name for Food Stamps.  It stands for Supplementall Nutrition Aid Program (I thiiink), & denotes that people may have other sources for food,, & ssstill be elligible.

Your cash payment probably comes fromm a different program, as I've never heard of a cash coomponent of SNAP itssssssellf.

Deb. in Vermont certain people, one being older people, get their food stamps on a card but it is cash. It can be used for anything, not just food. My MIL get her food stamps this way, she is 78. My friend who is young has normal food stamps. I asume that this is just a Vermont thing. It is nice becuase they can use this for non food items, toliet paper or hot foods. Babs
