Snowhawkwoman's post about making deodorant reminded me of this thread so I looked it up to refresh it.

How are the homemade beauty treatments and bath products working for those of you who began experimenting? Anything new to share?

Since you mentioned using baking soda for toothpaste (I think it was you) I switched to that and use it only. I use my own flannel feminine pads, saving money on those. I use cornstarch for powder, and cornmeal for a scrub. I like saving that money like that!  Edey

I use a baking soda paste for my teeth and another for my hair. I do alternate these with commercial products for the overall best price and cleaning.

For years I've used lip balm (like Chapstick) as an under eye cream. It has SPF, works great as a moisturizer and as a bonus--makes it easy to wipe off any smudges from eyeliner or mascara.

I go au natural. ie: just don't like makeup much, but when I do use a moisturizer and I don't have any for the face, I will take a bit of hand or body lotion, just a pinch, and mix it with water. Then apply to the skin. It works pretty well.

My grandma used to use lipstick as a rouge. She never used anything except lipstick. I suppose that's a carry over from the depression era, or just because I only knew her after my grandpa died and she had to live on social security. Either way, it seems that all she needed was a bit of color. I always thought it was simple, but she looked good.

I wonder how many actually do that,

I discovered that eye shadow makes fantastic eyeliner. I wet the eyeshadow applicator, rub some eyeshadow on and then apply. It works great and I can blend in the colors without having to own an assortment of eye pencils.

I only use one lotion for my whole body plus face.  don't get that fancy :) must work no wrinkles yet...of course a bit of fat under the skin keeps things smoother!

    Brandy,

Have any frugal ideas for adult acne? I am over 40 now and still have breakouts, mostly hormonal. the only thing I've found that works very well is Proactiv, which is expensive, but like I said it works.

I wouldn't dare wear moisturizer, I'd be afraid of making breakouts worse.

Good grief I'm too old for that stuff....so I thought.

For makeup I keep one eyeliner, 1 blush, 1 either foundation or compact, 1 lip gloss. I wear it only if I'm going out.

I remember my mom ALWAYS " putting her face on" every morning before anyone could see her. weird.

I do as well. Washing my face with Dove or the home poured goat's milk and oatmeal soap works well as long as I use a washcloth for scrubbing. When I do break out, I dab  a little Dr. Tichenor's on it. I also use facials regularly to help cut oil and blackhead build up.
