    Caseworker Never Returns My Calls

Is this common? I was missing a piece of information so brought it up there. He wasn't in and they xeroxed it, gave me a receipt and I called to see if he got it. Never heard from him. I called a second time and nothing. I hope I don't get cut off because of this but don't want to bug him. I am new at this, got expedited food stamps for the remainder of April and wondering if on May 1st I will have a new balance in my account which is what's supposed to happen. Have any of you had this experience, no callbacks? It would have just taken a few seconds to let me know he received it.

Thanks gayla. I don't know the supervisor's name or number and really don't want to tick him off by going over his head. I may just go in there and wait...and wait but I don't want a problem in May. I assume that the people at the desk gave him the paper. They have a system and claim that the worker will get whatever is dropped off. I just hope he entered it into the system that all is ok now and he received the pending item. Will let you know...thanks for answering!

I don't have experience with Food Stamps, however because of my work and ds' disability I have lots of experience with Case Workers/Social Workers. I would say call again tomorrow and if in two days you get no return phone call...call their supervisor. If they don't return your call, keep going up the ladder. If all else fails call your local Congressman or Senators office. They all have Aides that assist their constituents. However, start with the Case Worker and give them one more try. They may have gotten overwhelm as I am sure that they have more business than they can handle these days. Good Luck.

Thanks everyone, for your replies. Gayla, I guess I'll just go down there and see if I can speak to him. I sure don't want to be cut off..I just began. I know they have a huge caseload but they could take 10 minutes and return their calls. We shouldn't be treated like a number and just ignored.

Re: Caseworker Never Returns My Calls

Speaking of being treated like a number, here in SF, we at the Human Services Agency (FS, CalWORKS, etc) are identified by a "worker number" If your FS (SNAP) agency does the same you can identify the supervisor that way. If the worker if C123, the supervorsor would be C120, note the zero indicating the supervisor number for the unit.

Don't hesitate to call up the chain if you need to. You need to watch out for yourself. However, I would ask that you try hard to be patient. Counties are experiencing major layoffs due to budget reductions at the same time caseloads are increasing. The workload can be insane.

Re: Caseworker Never Returns My Calls

Caseworkers are getting tons of calls, and 10 minutes can be very hard to find, especially with another person who keeps beeping on the other line, saying "I just turned in my stuff an hour ago. Have you finished my case?"

In the days of the internet, if you can figure out the caseworker's email addy, send caseworker an email with a cc to yourself as proof.  Then you have proof for an email.  When I really want proof of something, I cc a politician, who usually calls the agency in 24 hours.  Use an escalating system of contact.

Emails are really very efficent for the caseworker as well. It gives the caseworker an easy-to-access written acount.

You can always call the supervisor, who gets lots of phone calls, or the regional or state office.
