I also go there to fill a shoebox for Operation Christmas Child. Easy to fill a shoebox for not a lot of money.
I've bought some toys for this reason also - and for some little gifts when wrapping for the Giving Tree at Christmas. Just recently I bought my god-child a "cell phone" (he's four) ... I wouldn't have thought of buying him a $1 phone, but his mother said he had one before and loved it until it stopped working. Sure enough, that was a big hit!
I've also picked up gift bags - can't bring myself to pay $3-10 at Target for those. Plastic tablecloths in various colors work nice under my lacy tablecloth - after a while if it gets too dirty or wrinkled, I start over with another one. I've also used those for craft days - don't have to worry about getting ink or glue on the table.
I just noticed the wide variety of cleaning supplies - and those aren't little bottles either! When I make lasagna, I usually make a double or 1.5 batch put part in a foil pan, so those are nice to pick up.
I've bought some yarn in the past - but it seems they aren't carrying it anymore
You do need to be careful - even though an items is "only" $1 you can sometimes get it cheaper elsewhere.
