I too will ditto all of the above. There's a $ store not too far from me that sells a lot of grocery stuff. My favorites include minced garlic in water, roasted red bell peppers, banana chips, honey roasted peanuts, canned tomatoes (I got the Muir Glenn Organic diced tomatoes at the $ store once), cookie decorations, etc. I also like to buy art stuff for DD; sometimes I even find really decent scrapbooking stuff. If I make gift baskets for people I normally buy the gift baskets and gift basket wrap there, too. Small tin cans for homemade baked goods are also easy to find there. Seasonal decorations; about 1/3 of my Christmas stuff is from a $ store. Stuff for classroom parties at DD's school -- plates, napkins, small goody bag stuffers. I have to send a plastic spoon with DD almost every day. Sometimes she remembers it, sometimes not, but at least it's a cheap replaceable. $3 is a 1-school-year supply.
Recently DD and I went and got her birthday party invites and goody bags ($3 altogether). We'll go back later to buy 2 small toys for each goody bag (the kind meant for goody bags that are packaged 3 or 4 for $1) and some sweet treat also, like a lollipop. That will probably be about $7-9. Not too bad for 10-12 small goody bags.
The whole point of turkey is to get to the pie.
