I cut back the bush by the stairs to one half its size.

Before the rain/snow began to fall today, I placed one cinder block from freecycle next to the steps, behind the now-smaller bush, with the "hole" side up. I put a rectangular patio paver, also salvaged fore free, on top of it - -perfect fit, by the way - who knew?  Together they look like a small step off the side of the porch.  On top of the "step" thus created, I put one of the log sections we brought with us from Idaho - about 16-17" high, & about 10" in diameter. That creates me "decoration stand".  Until Thanksgiving, I may put a pumpkin there, but I am working on repainting a small metal sleigh recycled from youngest DD.  I already have enough "nice" pinecones to fill it 2/3 full.  I want to paint it black, with "Zohnerfarms" on the side in either red or white.  "Zohnerfarms" is my ADGA herd name for the goats, & an alternate, off-season use for the small metal sleigh will be holding goat milk soaps at farmer's markets.

The sleigh fits perfectly in the space on top of the log & I think it looks cute.  Other than the work, it was all free.

Well, I THOUGHT I already had black paint, but it turns out I had gold.  So the little sleigh got touched up with gold, & I used a sharpie to put "Zohnerfarms" on the side in black. It is sitting on the log "stand", filled 2/3 full of pinecones. The parking lot at my hospital has lots of pine trees, so after I work a couple of more shifts, I will have enough pine cones to fill it.

ZF--Have you thought of rooting out those arborvitae trimmings and selling them at the flea market in the spring?

No huge triumphs to report, but SA had a sale yesterday, and I walked out with three books for the sum total of 30 cents.

So glad u started this thread. Just the other day got on the phone with Verizon (have been a customer for quite some time). They are currently running some GREAT promos and happy to say have shaved a whopping $50 from my monthly bill! (of course the happy-dance followed that call!)

I would love to be able to do things like that, but have no space where I can root out the trimmings.  Good idea, tho.

I had to go in for a mentoring meeting, so my "mental bribe" to go to yet another meeting was the pine cones, & the little sleigh is now full Wink.

DD & I were already at home for the evening. DH called and wanted to know what I wanted to do for dinner. I could either drive back to town to meet him (10 minutes) or he could pick up something while he was in town. I had him get bread, turkey, and milk. We ate cheap sandwiches instead of spending $20 to eat out. One triumph at a time. Getting ready for Christmas and Disney World has eaten up all of the great saving I did last winter, spring, and summer!

I ment to post this befor but forgot, lol. Last sunday I bought grocerys for this month. I spent $14.59 out of pocket and used $107.55 worth of coupons. Let me tell you this made me feel great! Now that hubby's lay off has started I've been really worried about making bills and buying grocerys. So far this month I am ahead $135.41 of budget!!!!!!
