I brew tea often, but believe that the original recipe was using thyme that was freshly grown, then dried on the stalk and stored in this fashion. When the recipe referred to "one cup of the dried thyme herb", it was referring to one cup of dry herb that was on the stalk (like fresh/dried rosemary and sage). Fresh herbs would make a better product, but good quality dry herbs would work well, too. Hope that helps ...

Re: Horehound cough drops recipe and tutorial

I planted horehound one year with the intention of making cough drops from it, but never did. Here is a step-by-step photo tutorial demonstrating how to make your ownc coughdrop with horehound. There are a few too many pictures - I mean, I know how to measure water and don't need a picture to show me how - but I am a visual learner and this was a really clear tutorial, if anyone was interested in it. I printed it out and put it in my household binder for later reference. http://www.thefamilyhomestead.com/horehoundcoughdrops.htm

Re: Natural remedies question

Check at a food co op for the thyme. Babs

Re: Natural remedies question

Lynnea Berr:

a cough suppressant similar but not identical to a cough syrup with these herbs. Note the instructions say to take only one teaspoon every hour as needed.

Lynnea, I think you must be right. I was thrown because the author calls it a "tea" in the first sentence, but it must be more like a cough syrup. I'm still baffled at finding a CUP of thyme. Thyme, as far as I know, is only sold powdered here. It would be very difficult, if not impossible, to strain it out. The oregano might be possible. I have large amounts of leaf oregano.

Re: Natural remedies question

ebunni, it's so funny you mentioned the lemonade.
