Wooo! Two nice $600 deposits waiting in our checking account this morning! Some will be used for gas for the trip to MD for my brothers hs graduation. The rest goes towards getting my truck inspection worthy (around $200), and towards a "new" car for dear bf.

We are doing a combination of things. 1. Purchasing a new boxsprings and mattress for our bed and our daughter.- $500 roughly 2. Possibly purchasing a new washing machine if this one decides to bite the dust- if it doesn't will put into savings about $300 to help defray the costs of that. 3. Putting the rest in savings until we decide whether we will need the money to live on if dh doesn't get a job by mid-September. 4. When he does get a job will use the rest of the rebate to pay down bills.

When I get it (we filed for an extension) we will put it towards the principle of our mortgage. This will result in two savings: it will reduce our debt, and it will reduce our interest cost. I like the idea of getting double duty for the application.

Since the price of food, gas and almost everything it seems these days has continued to go up we will be putting any rebate check towards paying school taxes in September. Usually, we've been able to budget for these taxes as well as property taxes which are due in January but with the increase charges of things our limited budget is being hard stretched and still we're not able to put aside as much as will be needed to pay the increasing tax bills.

BTW I got this off of the IRS web site..... Answering the question what is the stimulas tax check.....

What is it? It's an economic stimulus payment that more than 130 million households will receive starting in May. It's not taxable, and it won't reduce your 2007 or 2008 refund or increase the amount you owe when you file your 2008 return.

I don't have any credit card debt to take down, so I've got some freedom here. For me, it's one of two things. Our garage door opener is squeeling like a stuck pig; replacing it and the garage door (we want a metal roll-up, rather than the wood single sheet) will probably run us about $1000 of our $1200. The other alternative is to put it towards a "new" car for me. I recently got involved in a motorcycle accident, and while I was fortunate enough to escape with just a dislocated knee, my bike got totaled. That means when I go back to being mobile (some time late in summer), I'll need new transportation, and it's going to be a used compact for me. I love motorcycles, been riding since 1987, but in the past couple of years drivers around here have gotten so selfish and inattentive (HANG UP YOUR &$^%#ING CELL PHONE, YOU IDIOT) that it's just not safe to commute daily with one anymore.

I'll really miss the 55 MPG, though: I can't afford a Prius yet, and nothing else comes close in fuel economy.... :(

The check will go into the savings account, as DH is out of work it will be used to pay bills for a month if he isn't working by then.

We will be paying for the rebuild of a transmissin and the rest will go towards the iPod nano's we're getting the girls to put audio books on for homeschooling. If we sell the Harley before then then it will pay for the transmission and I will finally get my serger sewing machine. I had hoped to save but the vehicles are conspiring against us.
