I am too organized with my money so I "find" money much. In Canada our $1 and $2 bills are now coins (loonies & twoonies so if I saved change it would add up very fast! You can wonder were all your money went and look in your change purse and find $20 - $40 in change. I find them in the wash from my almost 3yr old son leaving them in his pockets. Money from grandma. Its funny, at that age my daughter would ask for money from my mom and be happy with pennies, nickels and quarters. He takes the loonies and twoonies only lol. I said to save their money for all day ride passes to the local fair coming up and my daughter is great and all for it. He is stay away from my piggy bank!

I have a bank full of "found money" on my dresser. I find it on the street, from recycling, on hubby's dresser(he hates to carry change), in the laundry, bottom of my purse, in yard sale pockets(cloting), old winter coats, in the sofa, etc. A few years back it totaled over $3k! Last year it was a little over $1k, this year it is about the same. I buy CD's with the money. ; )

It may not seem like much but it adds up. As a teen I had a couple thousand in savings from my coins, dollar bills and working for my aunt in the summer. My savings in the bank covered buying our first home with cash. It was a small mobile home but at least we owned it. I took the change and bills I had on hand and paid our first married couple bills and did some decorating in our home.

My DD takes all my change from my purse and puts it in her piggy bank. I've not really cared so far, as it all goes into a savings account for her. Now if she were grabbing it to buy pop and candy, I'd take issue with it. This is probably the only money she will have to buy a car and go to college, when the time comes.

I'm just the opposite. I hang onto larger bills (anything larger than a one!) and spend coins and ones. If I can come home with that $20 bill still in my purse, I feel as if I haven't spent much. If I can keep it a whole month, it goes to the "piggy bank" savings, which is a plastic canvas house on my desk. It's fun to empty it now and then and put it in real savings.

I have never liked spending dollar bills or change. Since I was a teen I have put these in a jar until it was full. Then I'll roll the change and cash in the dollars. This used to be my Christmas fun but I am currently putting this money to saving up for a large grocery bill to stock food.

We talk about emergency funds here and I have found another way to help our emergency fund grow. We bank at Bank of America and they introduced a program called "keep the change". How it works is when you spend money with your debit card it rounds it up to the nearest increment. Example: If you buy an item with you debit card for $4.95 it deducts $5.00 from you account and sets the nickel difference asside. We had ours setup to go into a savings account. In less than a year we saved $600.00 without really trying. You can also do the same thing on your own, and my mom has been doing it for years. When she buys something she rounds up to the nearest increment. She makes a note of the actual amount spent so she can keep things balanced. She has saved LOTS of money this way. A person could do either of these in conjunction with a regular saving plan and it would add up really quickly.
