    stocking groceries

at what price for items do you stock up on groceries??? for instance for me if i can find the item and we use it at half price i will buy it if i can get it for 1/4 the price and we use it i will stock up the pantries and buy extras to replace those when they are used up... for cereal i wont buy it unless i can get it for 1.00 or under with coupons... for meats i will buy it anytime it is atleast 1.50 off per pound or even less... an example for this weeks shopping is

lipton noodle and side dishes this week.. reg 1.79 sale 1.00 after coupon .25 so i will buy 20 packages or so of these since my kids love them and they are quick and easy to make on those days that my son has melt downs and i just cant cook a big meal... this week also when you buy 10 packages which for me is 2.50 a coupon for 5.00 off on your next chicken purchase will pop out.  and since our b.s. chicken breast is on sale right now for 1.88 a pound i will be able to get free chicken with each 10 packages i buy..

cereal this week is 2.50 a box i have coupons to make them 1.00 a box if you buy 4 boxes a coupon for 3.99 off a gallon of milk will print so i get 4 boxes of cereal and a gallon of milk for 4.00 which to me is a really good deal ( can you freeze milk? )

arm and hammer laundry soap 6.99 b1g1 free and i had 1.00 coupons so it makes it 2.49 for a bottle so i stocked up on 4 of those ..

palmolive dish soap 2.50 for 20 ounces  i had 1.50 coupons so i got 2 of those.. not as good as my free dawns but at 1.00 for a large bottle i can always use it around here and the camper.

Did you know 1 in 100 kids are diagnosed with autism
    most of those are boys

-One of the largest problems with having an Aspergers child is people don't always see a child with a disability, they think the child is just acting out or undisciplined, when in reality, they are merely striving to blend in.

    Re: stocking groceies

I buy cereal, canned vegetables, canned fruit, meats, detergent, soap, toothpaste and some other things only when it's on sale or I have a coupon and purchase enough to stock for the next time. I don't wait for half price sales as those are really rare. I am happy with 10 cents off for vegetables and cereal is a good deal at $1.89.

Sandra, I did the lipton sides too. I got 20 and a jar of hellmans , got a coupon for $7 off next purchase. Then I went back and got more lipton sides. I also bought 4 Kraft parmasefor $15.96 and got a $ 5 coupon off next purchase. I stock up if I can get it cheap at least 1/2 off or free. I use a lot of coupons. I buy cereal if it is under $1.99. Can find it a lot cheaper unless I go to Walpole. You never know what they will have. I feel stocking up on groceries is my best secuirty for hard times. That and a large wood pile. Babs

I think it depends on your area and sale cycles.   I stock up on canned goods, cereal, lunch snacks, coffee, and anything else I need when I know it is a great deal.  I know the sales cycles of my stores I shop in.  not many good coupons so I don't use them much.

for example I was at dollar giant last night and they had rice krispies squares, pk of 8 in strawberry and choc. for $1 each. cheap for lunches and they will eat them so got 10.  two I left at my moms for snacks.

same with the juice on sale at safeway bogo cases of 12.  brings them down to .25 each which is good for lunches.

Casandra you must be shopping Shaws (or Star)  :)    I want to grab a few of those sales too this week but need to review my coupons.   the chicken breast is a great deal - better than the frozen ones from Aldi.

I also do well on dish liquid and paper products as well as toothpaste, shampoo, soap from CVS.   It's nice having a stockpile of things and just having to 'shop' in the basement at bargain prices instead of running to the store to pay full dollar.

    Re: stocking groceries

Here are some items I buy only on sale and the prices I consider good deals-

    • .50-.65 for canned vegetables
    • $1 for canned fruit
    • $1.89 for cereal as I said before. I am thinking that brands make a difference as some are priced higher than others.
    • $1.89-$2.50 for most meats. I can ocassionally find meat at .99. I don't often buy meats now as I order from Angel Food though.
    • $5.99 for 50 oz of Tide
    • $3.99 for 50 ounces of Purex
    • $1 - $1.50 for toothpaste
    • $1.99 for Dominos sugar
    • $1.29 for flour
    • $1 for 11 oz of Palmolive, I can get 22 oz this way for $1.30 with coupons
    • .39 - bottle of peroxide
    • $3.99- disposable razors
    • $1- ketchup

There is more but these are the main items.

Brandy, I agree on the sugar price. I will only pay $1.99 or less. I watch the Walgreens sales for sugar and the salvage store. Babs

Walmart has their store brand sugar at over $2 so $1.99 is the best price I have seen in awhile. I get the Dominos which I prefer at Walgreens then use coupons if I have them to get a better deal.

Dominos coupons seem to around on a regular schedule. I like theirs too. I did buy some Walmart sugar around Thanksgiving. I use a lot of sugar. Ice tea, jelly, hot tea.......I like to have at least 20 lbs in the house at all times. Sugar is one thing that I would have a hard time not having around. Babs

    Re: stocking groceries

Side note: I been getting the Domino Sugar at Walgreens too. LOL.

I base my stocking up more on the seasonal sales rather than a certain price. For instance, canned goods get the cheapest around Thanksgiving time, baked goods around the holidays, condiments around July 4th time, etc. For cereal, just myself and DD eat it and neither of us are picky. So, I usually wait until the cereal goes on sale to where I can get it for $1.00 or so. For instance, I just got a box of Special K for 50cents at Kmart during one of their double coupon weeks (one of the few good deals I could find). And also, for cereal, I've gotten some great deals at $1.00 per box or cheaper on brand names like Cherios and Raisen Bran by shopping recent sales at the drug stores and combining them with my coupons. For produce, there are a few things that I like to put up in the freezer (such as berries, green onions, etc.) that I will buy in season and freeze enough to last us several months. For produce, I'm pretty lucky to receive the occasional hand-out from a neighbor or family member from their garden.

As far as meat goes, I don't have much luck finding good deals on meat around here. And what you get is pretty low-grade IMHO. I do try to buy it in bulk at Sams but I've figured it out before and if you figure out what you are paying per pound it really isn't much cheaper than just buying it in smaller packages at Walmart.

    Have a blessed day,

    Julie
