    Re: Zipcar

     and back to car share...

Zip and related services/co-ops help bridge the gap between reying on public transport and having to pay the insurance, notes, tagging, taxes and other costs on a car that might only be needed once a week or less.

I'm currently car free. The transmission is going in our $200 car yep, two hundred dollar car.

Obviously the return of investing  ten times that in an11 year old car is just silly.

We use Denver's transportation system and I understand the sharing service in Boulder is looking to Denver.

I'm eager and would join in a second.

Most have an annual fee/membership, then you pay a set amount per mile, which covers fuel and wear-tear, taxes and other costs.

I think the service in Boulder has a registration fee (one time) and some thing like $15/mo, plus mileage.

    Re: Zipcar

That sounds like a cool idea.  My brain kinda stuttered because I got hung up on "how do I get to the car??" because I live on the very outer edge of the city here and there aren't a whole lot of mass transit options. I think it would be good if there were a quick, inexpensive way to get to the car.  I recently bought a bicycle, but right now I can only ride it as recreation/exercise because work and shopping are way too far (and dangerous) to go on a bicycle. Well, there is a little shopping center near my house, but it only has a tanning/nail salon, doggy groomer and a liquor store . . . I guess I could ride there, get my nails done, tan, and buy some liquor (I don't have a dog), then ride back home, lol.

A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing.

I hear you on Oklahoma and BAD public transit. and really really dumb options in far-flung shoppping centers.

I lived in Norman for 10 years, and although I had a car (and drove to Edmond for university---yeah yeah, I could have gone to OU, but spent an additional year there) I preferred to walk, grab the trolley bus or bike.

My friend told me about Zipcar and there isn't one too far from my home. Sounds like a good deal.  I was thinking of trying it out of a year to see if I like it.  We have good public transportation, but sometimes  you need a faster mode.  Or sometimes you need to lug stuff around. It is a good option.
