    Canning Labels

I thought I had some of those white sticker labels but they are not to be found so I have to cut pieces of paper and tape them on.

How do you label your canning jars?

I use a black permanent marker and write on the jar lids after they have sealed and cooled.

when the lids are cool, i just use a magic marker and label the jars.. that way nothing sticky is left on jars to get off the next year.  works perfect.

    That's nice!

For now, I have two shelves in an upper cabinet I can use.

    Re: Canning Labels

I made up labels in Word, but printed them on ordinary paper, and used packing tape to tape to the front of the jar. This wasn't on things I had canned but jars used for food storage. The regular labels I've used either don't stay on or are horrible to get off afterwards.  Hopefully I won't have a sticky problem with the packing tape but don't know yet. On my mixes I made a label that said what recipes it was used for and where to find it, or if it was a single use item, like for a scones mix, then I put what ingredients needed to be added and cooking directions. And the date it was made. Edey

I use regular office mailing labels. We often have "throw-away" labels at Job A from misprints, and there can be as many as ten pristine labels on a sheet that goes in the trash if I don't rescue it.

I haven't had a problem with gunk. I soak the jar in hot water for a while, then rub it with baking soda. The abrasion seems to take care of it.

I use round labels and put them on the jar lid. Then I dont have to worry about getting it off. You can find premade ones for canning jars but not cheap. Sometimes, the ball jars will have a dozen labels in the box of jars. Babs

If doing for gifts, I make round sticker labels on the computer.

In 2001 I found a roll of large round stickers (just slightly larger than a small mouth lid) at a garage sale for $1 and have been using them before that it was a wax pencil like carpenters use or a sharpie marker.
